Description
Original Size: 10" x 15", Medium: AcrylicsThis piece is a homage to art that I enjoyed years back (and still enjoy today...!). As a kid, I used to love reading my brother's "Creepy", "Errie" & "Famous Monsters" Magazines of the 70's. Often, they had this type of scenario on their covers.
The executioner guy is not trying to harm the lady. Rather, he is her protector as she wanders away from her castle to "get away from it all" & relax a bit. Being a Queen is hard work, you know!

I love the atmospheric effects in the sky, and the colors are wonderful, too. The guard is HUGE! And he seems really intent on her--of course, you can't blame him... Very nice! Definitely a 70s Vallejo/Frazetta feel to it.

Thanks, Chief! This was kind of a tribute piece to Frazetta's "Death Dealer" series, while the gal is more tuned to Boris's style. I enjoy both their styles and this was a way to combine the two.
On a side note, I added the heels to make the babe look sexy, but I'm curious how she would walk over jagged rocks...(Unless she is carried, then it would make sense...! )

The guy certainly looks capable of carrying her over the terrain... And, to be honest, that would probably be a really, really enjoyable task for a man... You're welcome.

Hmmm...you may be right. If he were a eunuch, he wouldn't produce the testosterone to have all the muscles and 'tude that he posses...Maybe he's a mental eunuch?

Heehee, Looks like a real hard job being a queen!! It does not look like he minds his job!! haahaa!!
Love it, your work is incredible!!! You did a great job with this one as well as the rest of them, and I can also see Boris and Frazetta in this one, (Boris with the beautiful queen and Frazetta with his awesome dark characters!! ) Great job on this one!!!

Thanks a million! I didn't want to do the lady nude to avoid the 'gloss' of Boris, but I still wanted her fairly realistic. Death Dealer was clearly the inspiration for the Axe-Wielding protector.

Heehee!! When i say she reminds me of Boris, please dont take wrong way just cause what I said earlier, his stuff is still great, I had a calendar of his artwork!! I just loved Frazetta's stuff in comparison, it was much more realistic in regards to women not being a perfect 10 all the time...lol!!
we'll just say your queen is exactly that perfect 10, and she comes from a great gene pool!! LOL!! Then the darkness and the masculinity of the Protector just makes the pic all the more AWESOME!!! It presents a great story to the imagination!!

Thanks a ga-jillion! Oh, I understand what you meant. No problem at all. I have a few Boris books myself. I like his work, too, but I really enjoy Frazetta's raw energy & power in his paintings overall. And to me, Frazetta's woman are just as good, if not better than the perfect 10's!! I like woman to look nice, thick and sexy! A 'real woman' can be far sexier than a phony one...

I wanted the viewers to keep guessing...Besides, if a person is going to have a bodyguard, I think they'd prefer he be as rough-looking, so long as he doesn't turn the tables later!! But really, he's not as bad as he looks! It's his face that makes him look that way (and his axe, and his stance...!!!)

Much appreciation. This was my way of honoring Frazetta and the other Masters of Fantasy back in the day. I still love the intensity and style he demonstrated and I had to get it outta my system somehow!

Ricardofantasyart In reply to Ricardofantasyart [2005-05-24 04:09:01 +0000 UTC]
I understand. It's difficult finding time to do it all.
Frazetta is at the top of my list. His style is very raw and original. He was 'imitated' by many. I especially liked the way he portrayed the human figure. But I try to stay away from duplicating other artist's styles, unless it's a tribute or study piece.

No problem. Thanks a bunch. I love their work and like to remember the folks who inspired me. On a side note, which artist Lawrence are you referring to? I'm just curious...I may know who it is, but I can't place the name right now.
By the way, your pencil art is cool. I like the designs. They're quite good.

don lawrence artist of storm and the rise and fal of the trigan empire
he died 1 year ago but i would rank him among the best here is an english page on him >>[link]
( he was a british artist but his best known work was for a dutch series )
storm nr 22 was the last one pencilled by lawrence and i waited 4 years for that one
oh and thanks i personally dont think my art is that good
and its always nice to hear that an artist who i think is far superior thinks my work is good ^^*

lawrence was an amazing artist and i rank him up there with frazetta sorayama vallejo and other greats
his best work is the storm series but the rise and fall of the trigan empire also warrants alook
( and it took me just 4months to awnser this )

That's ok, Chief! No problem on the delays. By the way, thanks to your link, I checked Lawrence's work and think it is great! I knew I seen his work before. His style was very crisp and vibrant. Though he is gone, he left a awesome collection of art to be enjoyed.
I saw a few jpeg clips of the Trigan empire series and was quite impressed. I hope to order some books soon, as soon as I get a breather from work.

your welcome btw
here is abit more info on lawrence >> [link]
its a pity he is gone but he left a stack of great work ( though storm 22 is a bit of a dissapointment but that might have been due to the fact that i have been waiting fo rit for 5 years and that the story seemed truncated most likley because lawrence wasnt feeling that well at the time )
the official trigan empire site >> [link] ( ran from 65 to 82 ) one publisher lists the total number of publications under the trigan banner as 818
and lawrence his official site >> [link]
(according to that lawrence drew 50 trigan episodes and they are al being reprinted in full color 90 pages each )
..start collecting heh
