There was a change in the man—ex-soldier, part-time doctor, chess piece—standing before him as the last strap was tightened into place. That battle-hardened, rock solid gaze that could've been directed any place between here and Afghanistan, had lost its edge. That much was to be expected. Not many could remain calm with enough Semtex to take down two floors of a building on their person.But this was different. He wasn't averting his eyes, cold sweats breaking out under his once-army cut hair. No, rather they were directed right at him, something sharp and dangerous and exhilarating all at once dancing through them. “You’re interesting.” The doctor—no, John—spoke, bringing his attention down to his lips which he now realized were twisted into a mockery of his usual begrudging smile, “I like you.” A pause, an afterthought. “Not as much as Sherlock, no, but still.”
