Technically, Spock is older and theoretically joined Starfleet before Jim Kirk did.  It stands to reason that Spock MIGHT have been given command of the Enterprise BEFORE Kirk could have.  Perhaps in this alternate reality, Starfleet felt that Kirk was just too young and inexperienced to command a Starship, and assigned Spock as her captain, but Spock, took Kirk as his science officer and the ship's first officer in an attempt to aid his friend in learning what he needs to know to one day earn a command of his own.  I could see Spock as acting like a sort of mentor for Kirk.  Especially in THIS alternate universe.  BTW: I love alternate universes.  It's fun to explore how things could have happened differently.

Whoa this is awesome! Kirk looks so pretty in blue! It makes him seem more calm/gentle in personality. It's a cool alternate universe to imagine.
