Description
The Temple of Apollo at Delphi housed the greatest oracular shrine in the ancient world. The Sacred Way is on the left with the Polygonal Wall on the right. The Polygonal Wall is a retaining wall that was built to support the terrace upon which the second temple of Apollo was constructed in 548 BCE. The stones of the wall are inscribed with the names of about a thousand manumitted (freed) slaves. In the distance, the Treasury of the Athenians can be seen.
