Description This is about as close as I can get at the moment to the vision for this shoot that Tallulah and I came to together... though once again I have to give so much credit to her for the original idea and a really creative collaboration

Strobist info: SB800 firing into a softbox to the left (photoshopped out!!), with another SB800 with a red gel firing into the ceiling. SU800 used as a commander... but not the easiest beastie to use during the day!

that is a really great photo.
I like it.
But there are a few things I do not like on this photo. The letters that are falling down. Do you have the same photo without these letters.... that would be great!

Hiya - and thanks for the feedback! I do have the same photo without the music pages... as you no doubt guessed, I added them afterwards. I guess for some people that kind of thing is great, for others, not so; I'll try and upload the "pure" image when I get a chance!

yeah I read it on flickr that you've added only the letters afterwards via PhotoShop. It is a great photo, really, but I think, that the letters look a bit too much unreal.
But beside this... it is a really great photo!

I must chip in with the others - you've really managed something special here - the location and composition is just phenomenal.

Well done!

I didn't believe it possible but this one is even cooler than the one before. I cannot describe how much I like this piece of art, congratulations to you and your beautiful model. I think what actually stands out to me most of the amazing colours in this picture, they are vibrant and add to your mixture of reality and surrealism.

You can see what I've done yesterday in my gallery Solacz-seesion-1:

unfortunately I used only build in flash with toilet paper () as a difuzor or natural light

toilet paper rulez Ehh my english, I don't know what you mention in last sentence

RichardKnightly In reply to binarytree [2008-09-15 17:14:51 +0000 UTC]

Actually I was thinking about this and I'm not sure toilet paper is going to do you much good outdoors. A little diffuser on a hotshoe flash is still a very small light source and therefore a "hard light" outdoors. Plus less of the light goes towards your subject. So unless I'm using a softbox or some larger diffuser I tend to use flash without a diffuser in the open air. Indoors is a different matter - in that case the diffuser bounces light off all the walls and ceilings, so it does create a softer light and is cool. Hope that makes sense!

It makes sense.. outdoors light doesn't have as many objects as in home to bounce off.. but I have tried with that "diffuser" and without it, and I think toilet papier gaves light a little better. But I must go outdoor and try it very carefully, thanks for that notice

Your composition is awesome, with the flying music sheets...

The model is simply gorgeous, and just commands this shot! And also, that is, quite honestly, the hottest dress I've ever seen.

The only thing that my eye notices that bugs me is the halo between the sky and the column in the upper left.

Nevertheless.. just wow.

Hi kubowski, thank you very much indeed for your kind comments, and your constructive input. There is a little haloing, you're right. I haven't really sharpened the image much but there was a fair bit of cloning in that area to get rid of a large softbox!! I may have inadvertently introduced the artifact (that whole edge was pretty much reconstructed). I'll see what can do to put it right. In the meantime, thank you again. And yeah, the dress is pretty special isn't it It attracted quite a crowd even on a cold, windy day.

this is super cool ^^ very nice shot! quick question; where is this place? it looks to cool to actually exist, and if it does? you are very fortunate to have visited. the thing that stands out most i think is the sheet music, its just blowing away. you could almost call it conformity as in orchestras every musician follows that music to a T where as in this pic its all just going to the wind like some sort of revelation is on the verge of happening, a totally original and incredible thing and we the viewer simply need wait and we may see it.

RichardKnightly In reply to Koyzumie [2008-09-13 01:39:56 +0000 UTC]

Hehe - thank you my friend! It does exist - just outside Birmingham in the UK. It's where Emma (Tallulah Taboo) used to ride horses. An old bandstand...
I'm really glad you like the music!
