It would have been interesting to witness the departure from realism to the appreciation of interpretive work

yes. there was a good interpretive essay available but this was a very small show, only eleven sculptures! the thing about Brancusi, to me, it's very beautiful but you "get it" - or think you do - very fast, I can't stand and stare at it the way I can some things. now that I think of it - I have a harder time staring at sculpture in general than at painting. interesting to think about.

A very interesting morning today.
Speaking of interior architecture and the contrast to the exterior considerations.
My boss handed me a project to estimate for the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art (expansion). The architect is Annabelle Selldorf, who (I am learning) is very cognizant of interior spaces and their meaning/presentation.
We were contracted for the renovation in the mid 90's (think OJ Simpson trial) and now we have this opportunity.Β
I was the #2 foreman during that project, running structural anchor design,.... we lost our foreman (for a few years) and I ended up having to take on the entire project my self as field rep/foreman.
Listening to Selldorf speak to a Harvard class about her work....fascinating.

Just did a google search and read up on her - looked at the museum too. What a great project, and architect and firm to work with!

San Diego construction is relatively slow compared to everywhere else for some reason. I'm pretty sure we will need to come up with a tight number to win the bid.Β  Β
