the ideas, yes - i think if the ideas come first then the work is illustration - which is a fine thing - but not what i am trying to do most of the time.

as to what i am trying to do, i am not completely sure.

you said something wonderful, related to this, it was so good i wrote it down: "inspiration comes after you start." oh, i should have dated that! i would guess january, from where it is in my notes.

and that's right - if we knew in advance we could simply sit and say it to ourselves, and why do the work?
