I love the used stamps. I use them all the time. Great minds think alike, I suppose!

I got a package from Hong Kong and the sender used all stamps. It's this amazingly beautiful chunk of postage. Will let you know when it finally ends up in a painting.

Oh my. So cryptically witty! What size is the original? (Artist Trading Card size?? hint hint) Wanna trade sometime?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to hogret [2009-06-19 12:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Oh, for me it's huge! 6 x 9 inches. But I will do an ATC with you when I have a nice piece the right size.

Size counts, after all?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to hogret [2009-06-19 13:25:15 +0000 UTC]

It must be measured! Counting is optional.

You have 13 items, mister (yes, I counted). The evil queen stamp completes the story entirely. It's amazing how heavy space becomes when you balance it with form. Well done.

RichardLeach In reply to Ahavati [2009-06-15 15:24:14 +0000 UTC]

Aren't there only 12? Anyway, thanks! Yes, the evil queen was the last piece to go into place, I saw that and said "aha!"

another interesting composition, have you considered doing a larger scale version?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RichardLeach In reply to miles-tebbutt [2009-06-15 10:07:31 +0000 UTC]

thanks. it's all paper scrap and gluestick, so the size is fixed, though one could do a high resolution scan and blow up the jpg.

i used to love to read old comics between the age of 5 and 25 , after i stopped , don't know why , probably got to busy and became a boring adult

but lately (the last 5 years ) i've been experiencing an inverting of the aging process i am so happy , i can enjoy life again !

it reminds me so of those early years

i am so pleased by everything you said, hanan, you see what i am doing in these pieces! the inversion of the aging process is a wonderful thing. i read comics until i was a young adult, then stopped for many years, and just lately have been reading some "graphic novels" as they are called. using some old comics i found stored in my basement for collage is a pleasure in many ways.

i was desperate to find out last year that my mother have thrown (not given ) my whole collection without even ask me and this after 16 years of my marriage and leaving the house .
after waiting all these years she did not even think of asking me before she did so ! i don't know if i will forgive her one day

you know Richard reading is a very important part of my life . i read comics now but they are so different , i read them in french ( bande dessinΓ©e ) and french novels too ... in english i read poetry and some specialized books (medical or art or photography ) i very rarely read in arabic , and almost only poetry .

RichardLeach In reply to privatedanser [2009-06-14 21:51:45 +0000 UTC]

oh no, no, no! in a city where i used to live there was a comic book store called "My Mother Threw Mine Away". That is no joke, that is what it was called.

you read quite widely compared to me as i only read english! lots of poetry, some novels--i have a funny relationship to novels, i love them but i get almost too involved in them sometimes. and various other things.

you do well to have time to read, with children, a profession, and many pictures to take!

privatedanser In reply to RichardLeach [2009-06-14 22:00:30 +0000 UTC]

yes , well since i started photography , last july (not to mention DA since february ) it reduced considerably my reading time , and i do regret that .

my children are a little older now and i work half time by choice , my job being one of the most stressful because i work exclusively with children . seeing 15 crying and misbehaving kid in one day is the maximum i can take . so i work 5 days a week , 5 hours a day , sometimes less . my own choice and i am happier since i took it !

i get too involved in novels too , i cry and laugh and do weird things while i'm reading , i've been told

RichardLeach In reply to privatedanser [2009-06-14 22:29:13 +0000 UTC]

you only started photography last july! you had told me it was not long, but that is amazing

half time work is good. you are in such a needed profession, but the stress is high.

we are not very different with regard to novels!

i am a good learner , my teachers always told me
but i loved art in general since i was 6 years old and i started drawing portraits and reading about art .
i just had a bad luck , growing up in a country in war . i lived in fear and unsecurity until the age of 22 when the civil war finished , and that did not help me in developping my talent for all we could think of was material things and how to survive ..
it is only 3 or 4 years ago that i decided to re-live my old dreams and try to be myself . i am grateful i did , because it brings me so much peace and exaltation in the same time .

i read a story about the efforts you and your people had to make to keep life going on during the war, it made a big impression on me, for i remember it to this day. i am so glad you are doing this now, being yourself, expressing yourself. it is good for you and good for many others as well, who see your work and have your friendship.
