Thanks, Yvette. It is soothing, isn't it. The piece surprised me when I put it together, it kind of insisted to be made just as it is.
Good morning! The sun is shining here this morning and the forecast high for the day is 64. Yay!

nice blues! lol
i like the blue watercolor stain, like, you put a drop of really watery paint put some on paper. let it dry. it looks like what you've done! i love it, such a nice little detail.Β

thanks, Ruthie! yes, that is ink diluted with lots of water - it came about by accident but it looked good so i used it

wow, i guessed right. i do ink paintings that are mostly created with that effect. the more you layer it, the better it works. sometimes i put the water/ink on the paper wait long enough that it has made a mark and then Β use a towel to soak it up. that makes it ever cooler.
your work is so well composed. that makes the minimalism work just right. you must spend a lot of time shuffling bits and pieces before you glue them down. do you plan the whole thing out and then glue it, or a bit at a time?
sorry for all the questions, i'm very new at this and have a lot to learn.

thanks very much and no problem about the questions
that's right, i spend lots of of time moving the pieces before i glue them down. whether it's the whole thing or a bit at a time varies - sometimes i have all the scraps for a piece chosen, sometimes i get a few the way i want them, glue them down, and look around in my scraps for more if the piece doesn't seem finished.
this is just one way to do it - some people pick one piece, glue it down and then look for the next piece, and have excellent results.
also - sometimes i glue something down and then decide it doesn't work and rip it back up!

oh thanks, i appreciate the info.Β
how do you organize your scraps, or do you?Β
i have lots of manila envelops with things like...handmade paper, or text, or magazine backgrounds and textures...stuff like that.Β
where do you get your scraps from? is it found stuff? i like what you use.
what is the surface you use?Β

i don't organize my scraps. i have a small art table to work on, and they're just scattered and heaped on it. i don't think this is the best way, it's just what works for me.
my favorite collage artist is fred free, he is only posting new stuff at tumblr and facebook now, but his account here is still open fredfree i know he keeps his organized, along the lines you say.
my scraps are a mix of everything. i never buy anything to be collage scrap, not because of money, but to limit the range a bit. there are old books, old magazines, junk mail, various papers my wife discards after she's written on them, and some scrap i find on the street too.
i like playing cards and plain cardboard for surfaces mostly. cardboard cut from inside cereal or cracker boxes. this particular piece is a page torn from a poetry magazine. and i usually have a notebook i work in too.
