Why yes, I guess it is! I love that phrase, "friction cone" and had never heard it before - or maybe so long ago in a physics class that I've forgotten.

It is quite a challenge for me... as a cone is not a plane, is not linear...

The band Television has a great song about it that includes the line "I'm just crazy about friction!"

etymologically the four-letterd word starting with "f" (almost the same in German, just with an "i" instead of a "u") is supposed to derive from friction as well ...

I can read it, but not sure if I get it. I suppose it's all in your point of view if it's truth. Any way nice Richard.

Thanks very much, Diane. I don't think I get it either - but I liked it and it seemed to go with the word "friction."

It's all geometry in the end, the judgements non-euclidean.

Got to grasp those non-Euclidian geometries in this universe of ours.

Yeah, that is some serious stuff. I had two semesters of topology in college but the heavy analytical side of it is beyond me.

Mm-hmm. You know, I keep looking at the Higgs Boson page of wikipedia because of all the publicity about it lately. And I can follow the analogies that are used. But the "reality" of it? I don't understand what the physicists are saying at all.
