a surprising and eye catching piece! interesting how all that "empty" dark space works so well here... very cool, Richard!

thanks! always some risk in using empty space like that - good to hear that it works

uh huh, but one must see the inside cover for the full story
a very shy target

the black is inside covers from a magazine - not to mention "see inside cover" as a line from the dictionary key that is reversed at the bottom - you have an amazing eye!
and i like "shy target" - just peeking out to see if it's safe

perhaps not... might have to use a wormhole.

the trick is to stay out of the unstable ones... never know where you will end up.

small details on the edges are very captivating , when centre is kept so minimal .
and then thereΒ΄s double meaning of Saw , that really cuts it

thanks, Isabelle! that is good to hear. i resisted the temptation to fill it in - i think i could have done that and had it work in a different way, but i decided to let it be

Thanks very much, Diane. It took a while for the collage mojo to begin to come back, but it's getting here.

It is so frustrating when the mojo goes away. I am glad it is coming back !

I find myself drawn to many of your more minimalist collages, including this one.Β I love your use of the (mostly) black background here, and the deckled stripe is great, too.Β Very nicely done!
And I can't help but see a lit blue - and stylish - stogie at the bottom...which for me, at least, somewhat ties together title and work.

Thanks very much, Vic. I had to ask myself if this one needed more elements, but it really felt done.
And at your logographic bilingual interpretation!

I always knew that high school Latin would come in handy one day!Β

I took three years of high school Latin! That was the old school. Do they even offer Latin in high schools any more?

I sincerely doubt it...except maybe in Catholic schools. Β I always considered it one of the most important courses that I had, and I felt fortunate that it was part of the curriculum in my fairly podunk Pennsylvania school.Β Ambulo, ambulare...ambulance, ambulatory, preamble...Β

I was in a fairly podunk school in Maine. What a different time that was. Hic, haec, hoc, hujus, hujus, hujus!

As luck would have it, Tammy and I watched Monty Python's Life of Brian last night.Β I smiled and thought of you during this scene: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IIAdHEβ¦

I like the style of the most of your works; for some odd reason I see them like a "1950's style"....

RichardLeach In reply to altergromit [2013-10-11 16:18:03 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, Anna. That's interesting! I think the little scrap of paper with "saw" on it actually comes from the 1950s
And I am definitely influenced by Robert Motherwell, who was active in the 1950s as well as before and after.
Not to mention that I was born in 1953
