It's the bright light from the scanner - in normal light there's little show-through.
But it's okay, I don't mind that the original is partly seen. There are blackout pieces that cover the original up darkly and thickly but I didn't want to do that.

They retrieve them for you, and give them to you with the critical bits blotted out.
