Description
Just a little something made in a weekend while searching for a unique style. At the moment itβs just a Cave Story -ish prototype.
Will it be more then just a silly gif? Don't know!

I sure hope it becomes more than a gif, I'd love to see a game like that--especially considering you play as a wizard, gotta love the magic Β

Are you interested in making games? I'm game developer myself but i lack designing skills for sprites - So, maybe we could work something out together. Btw, Awesome GIF!!

Your style is really amazing! it's really nice to see all the background blending and the amount of information you show without detail is awesome!

Really digging the subtle touches to the style here, especially the swaying of the tree branches and the fire-bursts on impact.Β I'd love to see this as a finished game.

I use photoshop for the pixel art itself. For the game programming I use Construct 2 by Scirra. www.scirra.com/
It's a html5 game engine that uses an event based programming system, easy to pick up. I can recommend it for everyone that wants to start making games.
The flame animations are actually just 1 static image over and over again but randomly rotated, scaled and moved. :3
Same goes for the trees. It's subtle, but you can see them swaying in the wind.
I've got plans to put some more work into this, just dunno when!
Too much to do!Β

that's awesome Do you like how pixeling feels/for you when you use PS? as opposed to using any other pixeling program? (like uh, graphics gale or MS paint)
oooh, haha I know nothing about computer languages! esp those used to make web-based games and exe. games
I used to have an interest in making games, back when I was in high school, I don't have that same feeling now a days, but I shall check out the site, so thank you dear! c:
haha I see! -goes back to your pixel and checks out the animation for it again- .. okay, I think I see your method a little better now! XD
oh yes, I really like how gently they are swaying, simple animation is always the best I say!
aww, ahem forgive me for being nosy lol, but are you working on any other pixel/game projects? :3

I like pixeling in photoshop, the color selection and the way layers work is very nice. Photo also allows for some blending between the old and the new, like using glows and whatnot. I'm not one to obey to strict color palettes and unspoken pixel art rules about what you can and can't do. We simply don't live in an age anymore where what you make is restricted by hardware, so yeah.
Photoshop shines for doing large scenes with lots of objects, because you can have lots of layers and organise them neatly into folders.
Photoshop does have it's flaws for pixeling though. For a $600 application you would at least expect it to have a pixel eraser. it has a pixel brush, but not a pixel eraser. Only the standard eraser brushes, which are round and too 'smooth' for pixeling. xD Maybe I can find some square pixel eraser brushes online. O:
Also if you're doing animations, the graphicsgale workflow is much preferred for me. I just hate the way animations work in photoshop.
You're not being nosy. Just showing interest, it's flattering actually.Β
Currently I'm working on a lot of things,Β
- I want to finish potato dungeon - richardlems.deviantart.com/artβ¦
- Building a unity3d game called Numolition, it's a math/puzzle game in which you blow up buildings.Β
- Working on a physical card game about pirates: twitter.com/Carrrds/status/289β¦
- A tamagotchi project which needs a restart.
- and no doubt a heap of other small projects
I'm very good at starting projects, but very bad at finishing them.

ooh okay, cool! When it comes to pixeling, my mind is still sort of in that "NOOO, stick to doing it old school!" lol, but you are right! In this time and age, no art form should be restricted to old rules created in the past :>
haha, that sounds like it comes in handy for you when you have alot of objects on your canvas For some reason, hmm I just can't seem to pixel in PS... ehh nah, it is too weird to me! I am just way to use to MS paint, which is fine with me, since it is what i grew up with :3
Do you experiment with colors to fit your pixel/scenes moods? or do you like to use stuff that is more earthy or more saturated and colorful?
WHHAAAT, no way! lol PS does have a pixel eraser :3 its uhh, when you select the eraser tool if you look at the top of the menu bar (where you can change the erasers settings) there should be a drop down menu that says mode, look for 'block' and bam, you can now erase pixels like a pro! xD
oh? I've never tried graphics gale, so I cant compare its animation process to Photoshop, but Photoshop is okay, for me... at least with animation pixel eyes!
yaaay haha, flattery at its finest~
QUESTION, the game is fun so far~ but how do I enter doors? I tried the up arrow key, didn't work, tried clicking on the door, didn't work/// lol I'm such a nooooob!
ooh, I am super new to computer language programs, such as HTML, css, and other things used for making and creating games (So I hope you do not mind me asking you questions!). What is unity3d?
haha, math and explosions?! but I hate math.. but I love blowing stuff up, oooh choices choices lol
haha cool pirate cards x3
wait.. -looks at the card image, then looks over at your webcam on your DA...- OMG you are ze pirate!
oh man, you have alot of projects that need attention >__> lol don't slack off now, you hear!
tell me more about this tamagotchi project!
haha, you are like me I have great ideas I want to do, start, work on em and feel great... but then eventually I start losing interest, or have too many interests in other things that distract me, so I end up not finishing anything, rarely... ;;

There is a free version with some limitations. But you can get a commercial license starting atΒ $119. Which is a pretty good deal for what you can do with the software.
