Description
"The Queen of the Damned (1988) is the third novel of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles series. It follows Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat. This novel is a continuation of the story that ends in a cliffhanger in The Vampire Lestat and explores the rich history and mythology of the origin of the vampires, which dates back to Ancient Egypt.""Originally King Enkil and Queen Akasha of Kemet (now Egypt) circa 5,000 BCE, they became the first vampires when an evil spirit named Amel was able to enter the body of Akasha through a wound and fuse with her flesh. Akasha then turned Enkil into a vampire by drawing out nearly all of his blood and then allowing him to drink nearly all of hers. (See: The Queen of the Damned)
The term "Those Who Must Be Kept" was coined by the vampire Marius referring to the fact that what befalls Akasha and Enkil also befalls all vampires; if they are injured, so are their children, if they die, so do all vampires."

And, as usual, the movie was nothing like the book. Big shocker there. In fact, the story about Maharet and Mekare and how vamires first came into existence was more engaging than what they came up with for the movie. Anne Rice said that she found the movie to be a huge disappointment. Which, when compared with the book, it is. Anyway, this piece is great and so are the ones of Claudia, Lestat, and Maharet and Mekare. Well-done.

Unless their going to make movies 6 - 12 hours long if not longer...odds are if you read the book first you will be disappointed. Thanks

The re-boot? Are they re-making the movie? And, actually, I read the book years after I had seen the movie. And, when comparing the movie to the book, I found it VERY disappointing. But I still like the movie. Stuart Townsend makes an awesome vampire, I think. As far as making a 6-12-hour movie, I'm the kind of book nerd that would sit through the whole thing if they made it that long. Of course, one hopes that if they did make a movie that long, they would have a few intermissions, you know?

Bloody-Disgusting reports that Universal Pictures is going to reboot Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles" and is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort!
Actually I would prefer they did her novels as mini-series

Robert Downey Jr. as Lestat?!?!?! I think I could see him as a vampire, but Lestat? Perhaps not. Although, he did make an AWESOME Sherlock Holmes. So, maybe he could play Lestat. As always, I reserve final judgement until I actually see it done. *nod nod*
