The FV2040 Conqueror is a fourth-generation main battle tank of the United Provinces of Connorianople. Designed in the late 1990s-early 2000s to succeed the previous FV2000 Companion ( www.deviantart.com/ricktoconno…), the Conqueror is intended as a powerful yet adaptable heavy armour combat platform intended to defeat other fourth-generation main battle tanks such as the Namijistani T-95(Na) and T-640 عقاب سیاه, and Denetherian Aurochs Mk II/III/IV. The Conqueror is armed with a 150mm/46.7 smoothbore gun with a wide selection of munitions for both close-in, long-range line of sight, and beyond line-of-sight combat, tied to a sophisticated fire-control system with hunter-killer capabilities and provisioned with advanced sensors including retractable optronic mast and independent gunner and commander sights. Notably, it is the first Connori tank designed to fight as part of a basic Coordinated Combat Network, with secure links for sharing platforms with other Connori forces. Despite its 64-72tonnes mass (depending on armour configuration), it is capable of very high speeds due to a powerful hybrid power pack and power-split transmission, with an active hydropneumatic suspension ensuring a comfortable ride, better accuracy on the move, and sitting/kneeling stances. Apart from a sophisticated, multilayer composite armour array with optional skirt packages, the Conqueror from the outset was fitted with both soft-kill and active protection systems, in the latter case this was the relatively simple yet reliable Mk I Modular Active Defence System, analogous to the German AMAP-ADS.
Achieving initial operating capability in April 2008, the FV2040 Mark I fought in the 2008-2011 Oil Wars. The Conqueror Mk I quickly earned a formidable reputation, its mast-mounted sensors and information sharing capability enabling it to maximize the power and range of its 150mm gun and drastically outrange invading Namijistani, Colossal, Barsus and Egyptian forces, while its impressive mobility and good protection ensured that Connori armoured formations could better weather attacks and maneuver to take positions of advantage. 1,027 tanks were lost during the Oil Wars, but claimed 3,483 tanks of similar fourth-third gen capability for an average kill ratio of 3.33:1. The Conqueror Mark I would eventually give way to the Mark IB and Mark IC versions during and after the Oil Wars, but its sterling performance in the Oil Wars has helped cement the reputation of the Connori Army as one of the most effective fighting forces in modern times.
The tank shown above is MBT10821 of the 3rd Armoured Division The Hammers of Saint George. She is shown here with her full Battlemaster uparmour kit, which includes extra spaced armour and slat-skirts, and additional Mk I MAPS modules. Part of the 7th Armoured Regiment, this tank participated in the Second Battle of Damman and contributed to Allied expulsion of invading Colossal and Namij forces. She would end the battle with ten tank kills, as denoted by the red rings near her muzzle.
