That Huntress costume is awesome! To be honest I was never a big fan of this version of her costume, I always thought it was a bit silly looking. You have changed my opinion of the costume completely! The dark and brooding look of the shot plus a kick ass design really makes you look like a creature of the night. It helps that you have the abs to pull it off.

Really great interpretation on the costume! i love the side ribs, that really adds a lot of interesting texture to the outfit- a bit more actuality.
Other than it mbeing likely to be super super hot in that thing- i can imagine a superhero flying around in that!

I have to say it's a fantastically made costume, but the ab window always bugs the heck out of me. She's not Power Girl or Supergirl, she's a normal human, and putting a hole in her armor right where people like to stab is a terrible idea.

I completely agree. This was my first time translating a costume and I often thought about going back and adding the panel in but it would look weird without redoing the whole outfit. I have a theory about.. if someone is super human.. then spandex is ok. Or if they need the flexibility. But if your a regular person you need to Armor up!

Absolutely! (no pun intended) It is amazing work, though, it really looks top quality. Do you think it would otherwise be practical for stunts or the kind of things Huntress would use it for?
What was your budget/time commitment on making the outfit? And have you thought of doing costuming professionally, for movies, tv, theatre, etc? Or do you already?

Not practical at all, other then a few touch stones on the costume, the cape I picked water resistant fabric, the idea she is a low rent batman (she doesn't have all the money) so I went to a sports store and bought and modified sports equipment. The staff breaks down into 4 pieces which attach at the thigh and we made them as long as they could be so I could still bend my legs. The clasps on the cape come off, figured the reason they were there was to be throwing stars.
I worked on it with my boyfriend at the time over the course of a year (we lived in 2 different cities), it was a learning experience. It entered up costing fair bit only because we would make a mistake or something wouldn't work out and we would go back to the drawing table.
I would love to do this professionally for things like movies, but haven't had the opportunity yet

So awesome. I do hope you put some detail up on your website about these costumes. (and make a journal that you have updated your website with the info. Unless I'm blind and I didn't see where you psoted about it? )
I am most curious about constructions. Questions like: Where do you buy your materials from, what the materials specifically are and how they are assembled. I tryed to put a latex outfit together once, but I think I choose the wrong glue. Though this one looks like some of it was sewn.
Also questions about the props, materials methods basics. Hope you find some time for us poor little unexperienced people to share some wisdom. ^^

There is a write up on the website (himeArts.com) about the basic steps on each costume.
I get various materials from different places.
If you have specific questions I am more then happy to answer
As for latex, This huntress is leatherette so it is sewn, but for Latex you can use Rubber cement (with some thinner) for the thicker latex gauge and latex white glue for the thin stuff.

Regular rubber cement? Like elemer's? I tried that but the piece came right apart from each other. But I had not waited long(say 6 hours) for them to fully dry. My other glue was the ammonia based stuff. After weeks it seems to old better, but I can still peel the pieces part. Is that normal?

Riddle1 In reply to Cosmic-Empress [2010-09-25 00:44:59 +0000 UTC]
Its not normal, it should stick together really well. Unless its really warm and the glue is just reheating up.
Bestine is the rubber cement I use with some thinner because it can get gooey. Its best to wait 24 hours before you start put the outfit on to give it time to dry. But even after 6 it should still stick together. Ammonia based glue (latex milk) is fine too, I use that for latex that's under .5 thickness
You first want to clean the latex seam with mineral spirits, once that's dry you can use the rubber cement/ latex milk.
