Ba-Weep-Gra-Na-Weep-Ni-Ni-Bon yo!So I've decided that I want to draw good looking bots and mechs. And the only way I know how to learn is to start out by copying. I know, I'm bloody scum. : \
So anyway I went onto the net and found a bunch of pictures of mechs that were in the style I love and printed them out as reffs for facial features/helmet design/hands and arms and legs ect.
Right here are a couple of pictures of J-Decker, that one robot from that really cute Anime show with the kid who joins the poliece and... yeah anyway.
I'm not to fond of the way the humans are drawn in that show, but the mechs look great! (It's the same way with Transformers Armada. The mechs looked fine but the kids were very minimalized and were often cross eyed. O__o)
So yeah, not to proud of this cause I sketched it from a pre existing screen cap. But I'll soon be uploading a bit of un-copied stuff.

Your stylization is pretty well fitting for Decker, the best touch is the darkened areas covered by the helmet giving it proper depth. Lookin' Good!

Unfortunately, like I said before I did have a reference for this though, so it's not really my doing. All I did was coppy it.
Yeah I've only seen the first episode of that show, and I really think that it would have been love at first sight If I'd watched it like, ten years ago. As it is it still gave me a fuzzy feeling inside.
I'd like to see more of it, but there are no more subtitled episodes on youtube.

I watched it raw...though its simple enough to get the jist of. The Yuusha show that came before it (one or two before it) I know where there's about 4 episodes subbed. Gaogaigar got a dubbed version, but sicne no one likes robots stateside it got slashed back to sub-only near the end. All the Yuusha series are featured in a crossover game together, Brave Saga 2 (aka Super Yuusha Wars), mdoeled after Banpresto's excellent Super Robot Wars series. I don't know too much about prior Yuusha shows. I think has a link to subbed Yuusha Dagwon. These things are rare over here.

Thats from the Yuusha line of shows, comprising a pretty big chunk of shows. Almost a new one out every year. There's a few other shows with at least similar bot facial styles. My favorite of the set would be Gaogaigar. The Yuusha line does seem painfully geared towards kids but has a lot of nice touches...Hair design on kids (and people) is not one of them...

Yeah I know, if I never used reffs I wouldn't even know how to draw right now. But I still feel cheep when it's not 100% my own, you know?

Yea, I know how it can be....I don't draw, but I hate the idea of writing something really cliche or overdone--which, I suppose, is the haiku equivalent of a reference.
Still, we learn from the masters--I was inspired by Issa, who was inspired b Basho....
Also, randomly: I wanted to tell you I was just IM with a friend and I told her I was excited because Ridel has just messaged me in DA; and she asked, "Who is Ridel?" To which I said,
"You know, with the Transformers art and Cod Hatcket."
It just goes to show how much impact badfic had on me.
