No, gracias means thanks in Spanish. Thank you in Portuguese is "Obrigado" and Thank very much is "Muito obrigado".Β Β You can also use Obrigada/Muito obrigada, when the speaker is female. (Yes, Portuguese is a more "complex" language to learn to speak and write. XDDDD)

Ahh ok. I was friends with a Brazilian exchange student in high school. I heard him speak to a friend who talked to him in Spanish. They said you could compare it to American English verses British English. Lots of differences but you can get by lol.
