unfortunately as cool/awesome as this is it wouldn't count as it wasn't created for the contest, but the music video. but i love the music video and the art so much. Were you the one who did all of the 16 bit artwork in the music video? because it's absolutely amazing <3

did you do the artwork and is it for an original game? i see the music video in the likeness of a game but just want double check

It says "You may use existing characters, stories, games, etc you have created prior to the contest but MUST create a new art piece for this contest and follow the other rules." I believe it applies! These are the super clear mockups using the assets, not the filtered versions in the video... and also, both the video and collage were done AFTER Feb. 14!

Artwork yes, but not for an actual game.

Alright, i'll make an exception. If these particular shots were more geared towards the contest rather than the video, well who am i to argue with that? ^_^
i very much like your style, and you're right i did say you can use existing characters but have to produce new artwork with them. alright i'll include it good luck

Haha can't argue T___T
BUT... if I submit the music video as art, then you wouldn't say the music video was created for the music video, just like the other contest art pieces were created for art's sake rather than for the contest!
JK xD but I understand. Still hope you can reconsider

I liked the pacing, some BG work, and a few of the effects were really good (especially the often re-used black smoke). The timing with the music was pretty good too.
The weaker part of the video would be the character animation itself. Since the style is essentially an emulation of Paul Robertson, the fact that the timing and posing was pretty average at best in comparison made it stand out as a sore thumb. Mostly, the characters' spines were too stiff and not enough follow-through or secondary movements. Had it been a more unique style it would have passed or been forgiven easier... and fit the backgrounds better (the styles between the backdrops and the characters were way too different).
Still, it's very solid work, only marred by the pretty mishandled emulation.

Thanks for the critique! It's essentially my first time putting something like this together -- while the character style / deformation is very Paul Robertson, I didn't reference his animations -- in comparison, Paul's work is MUCH more fluid, dynamic, and over-the-top. Animation-wise, I actually referenced a lot of fighting games, particularly KOF and Garou (still overall pretty weak I agree). I'm not a character animator, it's something I really need to improve on. Up to now, most sprite animation I've done has only been walking, and some wave-like animations (clothing/hair). I'll definitely work on improving!

Caught wind of this today and saw the video.
Very impressed, definitely invoking a lil Paul Robertson/Retro goodness. Really feeling the whole piece. Well done!
Now what do the subtitles read? lol, that's Korean isn't it?

Thanks! The subtitles -- in Korean and Cantonese Chinese -- I bet you can figure it out somehow

Hey can you tell me what software you used and how you learned to animate stuff because I want to get into this. Also I loved the music video, the visuals really make it what it is.

It's not me, it's the artist (Gowe)
I put the video and art together.
