But this seriously was helpful! I've always tried to go on with it by seeing the whole outcome at once, but one can get so much better results by working it step-by-step. Huu~

I can't agree with your "don't choose bright colors", especially if it's pretty lumionus green xD Okay, maybe this one is a bit too lumionus, but it doesn't mean that you can't make good character with this color as a basic one.
