A P P E A R A N C E

Warodiles look very similar to crocodiles, however they do possess features of a warthog. The most obvious are the tusks on their heads, the tusk closest to the snout is attached to the bottom jaw and the other tusk is on the top jaw. Warodiles also possess warthog-like legs which allows it to walk more like a mammal than a reptile and makes moving around on land much easier and faster. They can even manage to run pretty fast however not for very long, one minute at the most. Crocodile-like webbed feet allow Warodiles to be as agile in the water as they are on land. Warodiles are formidable predators and are not to be messed with, if you some across one your best chances are to try to run until it tires but the best method is to climb into a tree since warodiles can't climb.

Colouration can vary between slate/grey colours and more rich brown tones. Eye colour is normally yellow or mossy green.

H A B I T A T

Warodiles enjoy large bodies of fresh water where there is plenty of prey. Because of this they are most commonly found around Travista's massive lakes and rivers, however it isn't unheard of for a few individuals to swim through rivers and streams into neighbouring Balistad and Oroyan. If isolated rivers and lakes dry up, Warodiles will seek any available water no matter how small; keep an eye on your ponds if there's a drought.

B E H A V I O U R

Warodiles are fiercely protective and territorial. When heading onto or near fresh water keep an eye out, they may be huge but they possess very good camouflage especially when they are lying in tall grass or thick forests. Before attacking they will give you a warning, digging their feet into the ground and rearing on their hind legs allowing their weight to create a loud thud as it hits the ground. If the individual still believes you are a threat it will charge and use a combination of sharp teeth, tusks, muscle, and claws to be rid of you. They don't willingly attack citizens but they won't hold back if you are too close to them.

Warodiles have incredible eyesight, even at night, and hearing however their sense of smell isn't as dominant and is hardly any better than a citizens'. They have the capability to reach a top speed of 20mph (32 kmh) swimming due to their fin-like tail, and up to 35mph (56 kmh) on land.

Males are significantly larger than females and possess larger tusks. The larger the tusk the more dominant it is. Males normally hold one lake and the surrounding area as their territory which he willingly shares with multiple females, however there normally isn't any more than three females per territory. If there are too many females in one area it will become cramped and the females will fight for space.

During the mating season, between spring and early summer, males keep to their own territory as they prefer to conserve their energy for attracting females rather than fighting with each other. Males bang on the ground sending vibrations through the ground, and letting out a booming call using their large neck and throat muscles to attract females into their territory. However rouge males (normally very young) who have yet to acquire a territory may try to mate with another males female. They are normally found and chased out of the territory before they have a chance at passing on their genes. Eggs are lain around ten days after fertilization and will hatch after a period of 4 months in the nest.

Warodiles lay eggs rather than giving birth to live young. Their nests are made from anything they can get their claws on; mud, sand, and moss are common, some nests have been found to be using pieces of cloth and wood. Unlike crocodiles, Warodile hatchling gender isn't determined by the temperature of the nest but is instead a simple case of genetics. A mother will protect her nest until her eggs hatch, the hatchlings will then follow their mother around for the first few years in life until they are ready to face the world on their own. The mother does not teach them to hunt however, that is something the young Warodiles need to learn on their own.

Hatchlings are born with a thin coat of fur which is most dense around their necks. This fur will shed to reveal the scaly armour underneath as they grow. They are also born with lots of light spots and closely packed markings to help with camouflage to hide them from opportunistic predators and hunters should the hatchling become separated from its mother. Over time they will loose the lighter spots and their markings will become less compact as they grow.

In the colder months, should the water in their territory freeze over they move onto land and won't go back into the water until the ice melts. During this time it is very possible to spot Warodiles wandering closer to towns and cities as they try to find a warmer place to sleep, however they won't actually enter the settlement.

Although it is extremely rare for this to happen, historical records speak of a few tamer individuals who have become domesticated and have been welcomed into towns. There are also mentions of them being used like horses to pull heavy carts or being able to be ridden by their owner. Most individuals however are extremely aggressive to people and shouldn't be approached willingly.

Warodiles have little to no magical ability. Any abilities they possess will normally only be water related elemental abilities, most commonly Aqua Lung which enables them to stay underwater for up to 1 hour. Without the ability they are able to hold their breath for up to 30 minutes.

Ummmm... I got carried away?
I couldn't help myself. I thought I'd do the sketch and then go back to revision but I couldn't leave it half finished ;u;
I know I didn't have to write all this stuff but I wanted these guys to have some lore behind them c:

I hope you guys like Warodiles!
