It's usually the result of a stinkberry in the tree or a number of accidents with the ball (They might hit other pokemon with it).
Yes, I use Snivy all the time for the speed.

Well I knew about the stinkberry thing, but not about the ball. But other times, the ball is on the other side of the map and they're beating each other down.

Hm, I guess it is random. I often saw Buneary and Flareon upset for no real reason soon after I cheer them up.
I think it took me over 10-15 hours. Mostly because I mess around in the Cove Area very often.

Well, Pansear did here, but from how I remember this incident, Espeon brought it on herself by running in the middle of the fight. (Those three would normally attack each other instead of any other pokemon)
