Description
I'm pretty pleased with this. i used a reference from a book i have on my shelf xD called 'dynamic figure drawing' by Burne Holgarn (i think) i figured if i can understand how the anatomy works in a very detailed way and how the muscles interact with the skeleton, whne i come to creating my own human form in a stylised way (manga) it'll have a lot more accuracy and feel much more natural to look at.unfortunately, al the references in this book, are of people who have an awful lot of muscle so drawing someone who is slimmer may have to be down to me guessing what should be decreased. lol...
Do you think the title is ok? very unimaginative but i was really stuck lol..
Please Critique or comment or something to tell me what you think!!! please please xD
p.s. lol i know he's naked and that doesn't make me gay, and yes i know that him squatting like that should require some form of potty beneath him but i was trying to be professional about it!!

I think you've really got the concept of human anatomy down to an art! Quite litterally!
While in College (some years ago now) I had to do life drawing which wasn't so bad but she was called Sandra and she was late 60's ...so how I always managed to get her ass and found myself becoming too familiar with every rincle and soon enough began to realise what a difficult concept it actually is to draw anatomy along side details, proportions and of course shading.
I really like how you've enhanced the muscular shape with dark tones and I think his left foot is amazing you've really done that and the toes brilliantly which is then enhanced by the lef leading up to his bum and then the small of his back and upwards.
You've done very well in capturing the lighting and the shading on the left side and benith although I would have thought the right foot would have been a lot darker... I'd also like to have seen a fourarm sticking through the gap between the leg and chest but that's just personal opinion. Also a little more shading behind the ear but over all you've done wonderfully. Keep it up and I'm sure we can expect great things from you as human anatomy is key for all characters based upon the human form.
Well done.

wow thank you very much. i'm flattered xD very very much. tbh with this is got a lot of help with references so i don't think the rating should be so high for originality but thank you so much anyways. yeah i kinda got a bit uncertain about what should be darker or not and didn't want to make it inconsistent so i left the things slightly out of focus, unshaded. or at least less shaded than the otehr things. i tried to hide my lack of ambition with perspective lol xD i think it;s a common thing for artists to do anywyas.
and wow! live art sounds daunting. especially if it's always of sandra lol. though there is a class near where i live for live drawing so i might have to give it a go lololol.

You're very welcome and references or not you did a brilliant job - and originality isn't just for what you created but the way you created it and in such a pose and the way you photographed it and the way you didn't just put dirty black lines or left masses of plain white!
When I was in college (here we go again) we had a 'traditional and technical' drawing class in which we had to draw verious things... But our tutor would always tell us to take a picture, print it out, trace over it on the light box and then go away and colour it. Which I thought was cheating I actually lost a whole grade simply for just drawing my friend Hannah 80% accuratley (which my teacher said was an amazing talent) but I didn't follow the brief which was to trace on the light box. ...Several of our project in that class was the same and after I failed due to not cheating the first time I took to lying and pretending I had use the light box there on after!
This is something I've been reading regarding digital painting (lighting and such) [link] but there's no reason why you can use it to influence traditional art and understand a bit more about lighting ...if you don't want to read all that then just look through for the relevant pictures!
and lol

thanks a lot for your over flattery lol. though i probably did cheat because the reference wasnt a photograph i took. it was from sketches i found in a book. i am still pleased with what i did but i would have never been able to do this by myself lol.
and holy shirt your link is AMAZING!!! this is gonna be so useful thank you so much!!
thank you so so so sos os os so so much

I wouldn't really say over flattery lol but you're welcome. I use to hate my Sister... She'd never been interested in art and then one day I brought a bunch of printed out drawings how as I wanted to learn how to draw women in that style (toon) anyways i tried really really hard and everything was going from bad to worse I just couldn't get it. Then one afternoon I came home and she'd done hundres of drawings of these girls and more girls in all sorts of clothes and poses and such and pinned them all over her half of our room (pretty much like wallpaper!) ...but they were awesome! - What had happened was she started tracint them to learn the basic shapes and to get her hand use to different curves and shapes and such then she did the same but changed the clothing and then she went onto doing it for herself because she'd taght herself to draw women like this in one afternoon... I hated her for this and being that she is 4 years younger than me really took the mick. So a couple of days later when she was out with friends I decided I'd try her methods of drawing these girls by tracing and such and it really worked it worked a lot better than the methods I'd been trying to do before and soon enough I learnt how.
That link is pretty awsome, if you don't try to read it all at once or only read the relevant stuff such as if you skip the stuff at the top telling you about different colour renders and such and don't go on to the bottom bit about digital painting but theres a section near the middle about lighting and where the light would hit a subect and different kinda light (sun, lamp, reflection) etc... It's pretty informative tbh.
I'm already watching you and I'd love to keep in contact

lol yeah people who are super talented like that it's pretty annoying lol. but i try to turn my envy into motivation. especially when i see people post things like this :thumb149134954: it really helps to motivate me the progress is amazing.
if that thumb doesn't work then [link]
my brother is really good at drawing yet he is only 13 so 5 years younger than me. my realistic drawings are only just better than him but i'm almost 18!! is his account
yeah i will take a proper look at that link sometime. it is huge so i might need to use ctrl+F, lol.
Do you have a livestream or youtube account?

Yeh that artwork progress meme is pretty good. There's some wonderful things like that in all honesty. I was about to show you one from one of my favourite artists and friend but she was bullied off of dA last night so she's no longer here
Yeh your brother is rather good in all honesty. Yeh it's huge but if you just look at the pictures I'm sure you'll find the relevant bits I was refering too. I have a youtube but I deleted near enough everything off of it because I was getting loads of shit for the way I looked (back then I had lots of piercings and was rather goth like!) erm and I think I have a livestream but didn't use it as it used up too much bandwitch at the time but now I have my own broadband and my own flat (well I share with my lovely boyfriend) but I can start using it again I just don't know what I'd use it for!!? (missimoinsane) = if I have it it's missimoinsane: facebook, hotmail, youtube, dA etc...

lol ok well dA is more reliable anyways and easier to use i feel anyways. though it'd be cool to have a chat option and a difference between friends and watchers. also it'd be nice if deviantart went live. like on facebook if someone comments on your wall it pops up whilst you're in the window. none of this refreshing every so often to see if any views have increased lol.
i'll pass the compliment onto him

I second that about dA being easier to use, but don't know about reliable... There is a chat option (chatroom) ~ write a poll, edit your signature, write a journal or even a news entry to say which chatroom you're in and such! I don't but that's because the majority of people I talk to like that are either already there, on facebook or just rely on commenting lol.

i don't liek the chatrooms though. alot of the features on dA that i'm told are available are always so difficult to find, or use. i knwo dA isn't primarily a social networking site but it's a huge part of the concept. the website feels like that there is so much in it that it's become outdated and slow lol. if you know what i mean xD

Fair enough. Well put it in the suggestions forum and then get yelled at by the majority who don't want such a thing. I remember years ago I wrote a suggestion and everyone gave me hate mail about my idea being such crap and how it'd never work and such and such and such and now it's one of the latest features dA has done (putting thumb images in all forums and such!) hummm...

hm not too sure what you mean. with really muscular men they get a lot going on around that region lol so it becomes more squarish. i think i messed up the calf muscle which may distort the knee but also he is squatting in a way his leg are apart so maybe the bent knee at that angle looks funny xD thanks for the kind comment xD

Well done on the proportions on this one. It has a strong traditional feel and seems quite rough, which I like. You could look at your blending by simply practicing your presure. It can be dificult with hard/dark pencils or chalk but it's still do-able.

Rivalhopeso In reply to MetGod [2011-07-26 09:56:28 +0000 UTC]
thanks a lot xD yeah i should practise blending to give it a more realistic feeling but i hope this doesn't sound like an excuse, but i did this in the car when we were travelling from Poland to England so not only uncomfortable but also tired lololol. but maybe i should go back to it now and have a go at blending. then again i was trying to go for a deep contrasting piece so the muscles were more dramatic even though all he is doing is sitting/squatting. thanks for your comment

*yawns sleepily and mumbles something at the same time*
well thought to answer to this one finally... Bored enough xD
all in all this really is something you should proud of. It really has been drawn well.
Only one thing I want to point out. The bottom of right the feet is too narrow especially from the middle and generally hasn't been drawn with same accuracy as the rest of the body... i may be wrong since I haven't seen your references but still.
Umm... And imo it was good you were being professional about this drawing xD
btw are you going to join our little contest... You suggested it according to moony if I don't remember wrong xD
