Alright! Better late than never, right? Here's a tutorial about sketching. I would totally recommend sitting down every day and sketching at least one thing.Hope you like it!
I will do a tutorial every month, posting them on the 25th. Why the 25? No idea. It's a good full number

Do you have to sketch exactly like that to improve? I can't seem to do that.

I know this silly of me, but how can I make realism easier for myself? To be honest, I don't want to avoid it altogether because it would be really cool to draw a few of my characters realistically.
When I think of realism, I keep picturing myself struggling to draw an entire landscape picture perfect the first time, or me struggling to draw a picture perfect human face. It's like they expect you to know where everything goes on the first try. I know this isn't true, it just feels like it.
Is there any way to make it more fun?

Well, first off you've gotta stop thinking that you have to get it right on the first try. Realism takes time, patience and practice, just like any other style in art.
The key to realism is knowing that the general info/figure is more important than the details. The details are like the icing on the cake. It's not a cake without the icing, but then again, just putting icing on a terrible base can't exactly make it a cake.
And when you're creating that outline of general features, it's fine to mess up and erase a few times. That's why we keep it light
Realism can be fun when you approach it like, "Can I draw that as I see it?" Make it an experiment, a test of skill. And if you don't get it the first time, then it's alright to shrug and say you'll try again some other time, or try drawing something different. Everyone has different talents in art. Some may be able to draw humans right away, while others focus on animals or landscapes. It's rare someone will quickly pick up how to draw all of those things. I struggled with humans for a long time, but now that I've kind of forced myself to draw them more, they're less of a problem and honestly pretty enjoyable.
I know that I find realism fun because a big part of what inspires me to improve is the idea of seeing an imagined scene in my head, and then being able to transfer it onto paper/digital canvas exactly as I envision it...drawing the real world has a lot to do with that.
Hope this was somewhat helpful. Oh! Also, find a friend to practice with. I go over to Ava's house and draw with her and her sister all the time, and it has really helped all of us improve. Plus, friend hangout time!

River Spirit do you think it's necessary to draw the eyes in a sketch? I kind of feel stupid for asking this, but I feel like I put a little too much in my sketches

If it helps you, then why not? Sometimes I go in extra detail with my sketches to get more of an idea what the scene should look like.

Thanks so much! I would probably maybe not draw eyes when I'm working on like, a wip in an animation so it would be easier for me!

River, how do you draw fur? Or as I call it, anime fur? I always try, but it always ends up looking weird, like too small bits of fur or too large. A little help? Also, do you suppose you could mention how you do hair?

I swear to god, how long will it take for everyone to learn to drawn realism BEFORE cartoons? Preach it, River.

I normally just jump straight into the drawing, rather than doing a sketch. Sometimes I do a sketch, but I'm usually fine without one.

I find this really helpful because my art style and artistic flare came from your videos and I would always rewind to the very beginning in your first videos to try and understand how you did it!!! XD
Can you show us where you start and how you proportion things from there??? That would be super helpful! n_n
(I shall now feel less ashamed for using references!)

Yes, I do find this helplful, thanks very much, I do have a suggestion for your next tip thing. Whenever it comes to drawing the face of my cat ( or any other animal or human for that matter ) I always find it difficult to draw them while they speak, what I meant is I have difficulty with the mouth and especially when it's open to show that the character is talking. I guess this could count as expression but only limited to one part? Perhaps if you plan on doing an expression tutorial you can add my suggestion? Thanks again for the helpful sketching tutorial

Awesome! I really like how you draw such dynamic poses. I struggle with the more dynamic shots unless I have a photo reference.
Can you show us how you draw expressions? I have problems with how I draw my characters' expressions without compromising my semi-realistic style.

Wow, this was really helpful! I'd love to see more of these! Thanks so much for the advice and tips; I'll definitely be using them in the future. TBH, I really can't get cat anatomy right, so this will really help. Practice makes perfect! (But the most annoying thing is when practice DOESN'T make perfect!)
