If you use SketchBook on the iPad you can just, as she said, erase some parts. I imagine it takes longer but the results are good.

For anyone using SAI, I figured out how to create okay tears there:Β
Create a white/blue color and do the same thing River did, with a stream of tears gathering on either side of the eye.
Select only your tears and, using an eraser set to about 20-40% Density, do what River did: erase the shadowy insides of the tears.Β
Then, using a black airbrush set to about 80% Density, go over parts with extra shadow on a Multiply layer.Blur away the edges of the black. You can turn the layer's opacity down as needed to fit your lighting setting. Then add the sparkles with a round white brush set to 100% Density!

She uses Photoshop cs6 (possibly Extended? XD). I think some of the things are specifically to PS, but there are ways to mimic it in other programs. After you get to know your program, you can experiment with different ways to make tears. :3

I always found in you pictures (no offense) that the tears looked all POP and the cats are all like flat (no offense)
