Description 1/8/09 - Tortilla Flat, AZ

Tortilla Flat started out as a stage stop in 1904. With a population of 6, it is presumed to be Arizona's smallest official "community" having a U.S. Post Office and voter's precinct. The town is an authentic remnant of an old west town.

Tortilla Flat was originally a camping ground for the prospectors who searched for gold in the Superstition Mountains in the mid to late 1800s. Later it became a freight camp for the construction of Theodore Roosevelt Dam.

In 1942 a flood in badly damaged the town. The store and restaurant were rebuilt after a fire consumed the buildings in 1987. Several hiking trails into the Superstition Mountains begin near Tortilla Flat.

Thanks! Don't think so but they are lucky the other way. Not sure if they need to be above a door tho.

Nah, they're better used as decorations. In fact my parents use one for hanging their keys on!

It's really cheesy and fun! I was there about 10 years ago, I have a bunch of photos (non-digi, of course).
