Description 4/24/09 - Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Multnomah Falls is "the grandaddy" of the 77 waterfalls on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. At 620 feet, only three falls in the nation are higher, but none are more beautiful. The falls drops in two major steps, split into an upper falls of 542 feet and a lower falls of 69 feet, with a gradual 9 foot drop in elevation between the two, so the total height of the waterfall is given as 620 feet. It is the tallest waterfall in Oregon.

Multnomah Falls is heavily phoyographed. I tend to stay away from photographing certain landmarks that have been overdone, however, this was just too incredible not to attempt. Hopefully, I have given it a little bit of a different take in my shots. This is arguably one of the most beautiful places that I have ever seen in my life. It was an amazing place. There was so much more to see but due to time constraints I didn't get to go to any others. At least I got to go there, take what I can get!

Interesting composition even if it is a bridge. Have you ever thought of playing with a little HDR to see what difference that makes to the look?

Okay so that's a good thing. But do we really need to see it from every angle? Maybe you need to get yourself a canoe so we can have an 'under bridge looking up' shot. Actually no, terribly baaaad idea; please ignore and forget you ever heard it!

rjcarroll In reply to JojoSpangleStar [2009-05-03 14:28:33 +0000 UTC]

A canoe? Blimey! Why didn't I think of that! *runs off to book return trip with killer idea*

I do have an 'under bridge looking up' shot of the Brooklyn Bridge! Upbridge?

What I was trying to do was get a unique take on a heavily photographed landmark. I do have more angles! So glad that you asks! *runs off to edit them for JoJo*

Beautiful cpature! Oregon is a gorgeous state. I went there over spring break. I treked up to the bridge and took photos as well. I can tell where you took this from by memory - I asked to go up there, but my parents were being cranky about getting wet.

Probably not anytime soon. I will be heading back east in a month. I will be stopping by here [link] I can't wait! Looks so incredibly beautiful! So many places, so little time... *sigh*

Oooh, that looks beautiful! I hope you have fun, and take lots of photos. I'm dying to travel more...I live in MI, so I'm thinking about going up to Canada for a week, maybe, with just my mom, and exploring.
Where in the east do you live? (pardon my asking) There are some lovely landscapes there; Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire...even the country in NJ and Connecticut. The Carolinas. Goodness, just talking about them makes me want to get in a car and go...

I will be taking plenty of photos on that one and the trip back across the US! Not really sure what to say when someone asks where I am from! I guess it'd be NJ (just outside of NYC) if I have to narrow it down. I was born and raised in Ohio, then moved to NJ. Was in the Navy, so San Diego then the Phillipines for a few years, back to San Diego, then NJ again. Now in Phoenix heading back to NJ! Whew! Everything I own fits in my car so I can be on the road in a moments notice. I love New England and spend time in MA and soon CT (my friend is moving there). Maine, Vermont & New Hampshire are wonderful places! I've been in 34 states, 16 to go! Been to 7 countries. You will find lots of photos from the different states in my gallery. I like shooting Roadside America photos and am a big Route 66 fan. I really do want to go to Egypt sometime soon. Canada sounds nice! I was in Monreal & Quebec back in the mid 1970's (school trip). My father traveled (mostly outside of the US) and photographed extensively prior to marrying my mom and then they traveled together. Sadly, my father no longer shoots. My mom still does (cats and granddaughter mostly).

Thanks! It's worth it! Up to the footbridge is not bad even with a 35 pound camera case. Going up higher is a bit of a chore but again well worth it.
