Oh this is great. My friend here says it looks like a still out of some twisted up movie. Also I love how all the many textures of fabric, stone, and metal play against each other in the frame

Thanks! This is my take on 1940's film noir with a modern twist!

No, not any one in particular. We grew up watching all those old flicks on rainy weekend afternoons when there were only 6 channels to choose from. We didn't even have a colour TV set so everything was in black and white!

haha, nice. I was exposed to them early on because that was all my mother would watch outside of mystery TV shows, and I just fell in love with the still of visual story telling. And then the comics came along and I was completely doomed

Never got into comics (strange, I know). I took the horror route as a kid.

horror is good too, espcially the slowly unraveling psychological episodes.

Definitely! I like movies that technically don't scare but leave a really uneasy feeling for hours after! Never heard of May but a quick glance at imdb and that goes on the list!

I like the questions this picture arouses: who or what is she aiming at? An adulterous boyfriend? A fiendish alien? A female competitor? Is she an evil woman or is she just fulfilling justice?
Funny thing is I made a series of drawings of women with guns like this. Only difference was I captured the moment just after the shot and gave some more clues about who and why they made the kill...
Nice one again... (BTW, is it a Beretta M92 she's holding?)

I always get the image from the old PI movies from the 1940's with this series and she is fulfilling justice. It's a fake gun, not sure what it is a replica of.

I hope this isn't too critical, but wanted to note here for ya: I love the pose, outfit, etc., and model herself is great, just seems a little dark. Was this on purpose for the shot to draw us in? If so, it seems the window catches the eye more than the model. If this is too much, again, I apologize!

No not at all, I view it as an honest question. It is darker than usual for effect, to give a cinematic look to the piece. I am seeing varying views of this shot on several different monitors. Although it is a dark pic, my monitor at work is full up on brightness and the details in this shot are almost nonexistant. Try bumping up you brightness a little (until you can see slight detail on the left side of her face) and then take a look and let me know what you think. That is how it should render. Thanks for your comments.

Oh, I can catch the detail, really, it was the window that got me. heh, like I said, I was worried about crossing the line on the criticism, so didn't detail. Basically it's SO bright, it's drawing my eye right away from the model. Not much you can do, maybe position her a little lower on the stairs?

Yeah I hear ya! I wanted the grey sky in there to add to the aura, but without that window I'd been humped due to the fact I was going with available light all day. Catch-22...

Being someone who doesn't own his own lights myself, I can feel your pain on available light....::groan::

I have all kinds of equipment and I tried some shots with it and it wasn't working out. I ended up deciding early on in the shoot that available light was the way to go for the day. Most instances it was sufficient. Even when I was a young photographer (a long time ago in a galaxy far far away) I always had a penchant for available light. I shot many rolls of ISO 1000 and pushed a lot of Tri-X...

I lov it! Very Nice shot of "counter - diving". I like the nuance between black-white and grey!
