All of these mannequins were in the basement all of the way in the front of this huge store I worked in, furthest away from the employees that worked in the shipping and receiving department. No windows. Little light...If anyone saw me taking the pictures that yeilded this work they would have freaked. Not your artistic types working there, that's for sure. They never would have understood. Every female non-artist that sees this piece automatically thinks that it is of sexual nature (I guess because these mannequins are unclothed?) which, was not my intent when I shot it. Kinda makes ya wonder where some folks mind's are at...

*lol* That's funny. I read it more as a commentary on social standards or something more along those lines...that always bothers me though - why are boobies and nakedness so taboo? I mean, crists, people, they're body parts. Lots of people have them.
On the other hand, watching violence on TV is the norm.

indeed. Yeah, I had this whole 2 hour long conversation with this European artist named "Ten" at my friend's New Year's Party. Apparently the ratings for most movies and such there is the opposite of what it is here with violence being much more taboo than sex...

you know what tops it all off? the grain of the film. That's what makes it seem like a horror piece to the guys and a sexual piece to the women. It reads like a file photo. personally, it reminds me of a crime scene. It's great how most of them are looking to their right. nice work though, i like the gallery, actually.

amazing.. i would never see a sexual side to it but a scary one is there for sure. its just how they have been abandonedand left there and this is how you found them which makes it really just top notch and klassy. you have some klassy pieces in your gallery but i liked this one the most but can't wait for the 1966 Thunderchicken so from me its and fave AND a watch

Thanks for the fav and teh watch! As I have said before, this pic has been highly controversial. Most of the women think it represents perversion due to the lack of clothing. Usually, when I hear negative connotations I find that it is a projection of one's thoughts/deeds onto another person! Most guys usually go with the horror movie interpretation. Now, with that being said, which gender possesses the perverted mind...

I love this picture. I understand the ethical conflict that surrounds this kind of work. Of course it's the male side part of us humans that make women have a natural fear for this type of female portraits, and I'm sorry to say that they have every reason to. Most men are uncivilised animals when it comes to some biological urges. I got the same problem with my more explicit erotic illustrations. I just want to portray all of women's beauty without all the sexual conflict it arouses. Still men don't appreciate it for the right reasons, and women are repelled by it because of that.
With this picture it's even more unsettling that the women are just real lifeless objects and still release the same human instincts.

One of the ideas behind this piece was that there is really nothing dating it. It could have been taken anytime in the last 30 years. The other point is, the front most mannequin with its head to the right is out of the depth of field and appears have to been caught in motion (more prominant in looking at the original photo). I wanted to add a surrealistic aspect of movement to a group of inanimate objects. Not much of a titillating piece, unless of course, you happen to be Howdy Doody or Pinocchio...

Fortunately people at DA can look at work like this with another view than other people might. There's a lot of folks out there with a really uptight and narrow view on everything remotely reminiscent of sex. I like your ideas behind it though and I enjoyed the picture.
