Heh, well... I haven't played Sonic Adventure 2 myself (due to not having the right game-console), but even I know Tails always gets out of these scrapes alive! He's quite capable to taking on Eggman all by himself, after all!
(Has played Sonic Adventure DX, as there is a PC-release)

If you liked SA, you will probably like SA2 better. The gameplay is great, the music is excellent, and the story is one of the best in the franchise.

Normally, Tails flies his plane, the "Tornado", seen in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3&Knuckles, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Unleashed, etc.
However, in SA2 Tails had a new, experimental plane, the "Cyclone", which could transform into the "Mecha Walker" form seen in the game.
If my memory serves me aright, if you collect all emblems for the Tails missions, you unlock his other plane, the "Tornado".
