Description The second delta-wing test prototype for the RAF Avro Vulcan jet bomber was the Avro 707B.  Like the first 707, the 707B had a dorsal-mounted air intake, but it was of a NACA design imported from America.   Other changes to the 707B included a longer nose, as well as revised wings and landing gear, which gave the plane a higher angle of incidence on takeoff and landing.  The 707B was tested on low-speed flights from 1950 to 1953, when it was found that the combination of cockpit design and air-intake placement induced unwanted turbulence on takeoff.  Subsequent testing, including high-speed testing, was performed with the 707A and 707C, which had air intakes mounted on the wing roots.  This model of the Avro 707B in sky-blue paint, with what appears to be either a fondue fork or Neon Genesis Evangelion's Lance of Longinus mounted on the nose, is on display at the London Science Museum.
