Description
The first airplane to exceed 1000 miles per hour was the Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) Fairey Delta 2 jet plane, which in March 1956 reached 1132 miles per hour under the control of Peter Twiss. A model of this supersonic airplane, whose delta wing and adjustable nose later showed up on the BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde jetliner, is on display at the London Science Museum. The two aircraft built, WG774 and WG777, are also on display in museums. I think WG774 is at the Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton and WG777 is at the RAF Cosford Museum.Related content
