Description
One of the places my family went on our late-August vacation around Southern California was San Diego, and the first place we visited was the famous Cold War-era aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41). After the Midway was decommissioned, it was turned into a massive naval museum. We went into the Midway and up to the flight deck, where there were lots of airplanes. We saw, moored in a berth near us at the harbor, a massive cruise liner, the Carnival Cruise Lines ship Elation. This nautical colossus is nearly 900 feet long, and can carry 2000 passengers and 1000 crew in luxury. I imagine going on such a ship would be like going into a floating city....Related content

One of my best memories was going down to San Diego with my fiance to see the tall ships and standing on the dock in front of both the Carnival ships as they departed in the pouring rain at night. It truly was a magical experience and one I will never forget.

it was absolutely stunning. We were soaked to the bone from standing there and our mad dash to the car. It had started raining while we were below deck on the Star of India.

The Star of India...is that the old sailing ship? I wish I'd had the time to go there.

Yes it is. It's the big one that is right against the boardwalk.
I make a point to get over the the tall ships when I am there because I love historical ships like that.
They actually have a couple of submarines over there by the old ships too.

Uh, there was one docked at North Island, it had a #8 on it. A buch of other military ships docked at the harbor and another cruise ship, I forgot what it was called.

hmm, I could have sworn it said 8, but just 8. According to the web, it was the Hornet that was sunk in 1942. I know it said 1 number though. weird

I meant if the other cruise liner was the Triumph, not the other naval ship. Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough. And you're right; the Hornet was CV-8, and was sunk in 1942.

yeah, maybe it said 68, the Nimitz. The other cruise liner wasn't in english so I don't know maybe if I search, but it's time for me to go to sleep now
