Description
From August 1944 to March 1945, the Axis-created Gothic Line across northern Italy was the site of a long battle between the advancing Allied armies (USA, UK/India, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Brazil, Greece, Poland, and Italian co-belligerents) and retreating Axis armies (Germany and Mussolini's Italian Social Republic). A battle-damaged German StuG III self-propelled assault gun, similar to what held back Canadian and other Allied troops and convoys, is displayed in the World War II gallery of the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.
