Description Here's the kind of model train I wish I could run: JNR Hudson (4-6-4) C62.2 pulling the Tokyo-Osaka Tsubame Express, as seen at the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum in Kyoto.  Unfortunately, it would take up quite a lot of space and money, to the detriment of the overall model railway project.  This is the same type of train that stars in Leiji Matsumoto's Galaxy Express 999.

Depends on the scale and size of your layout. You didn't say what scale this is, but it looks to me like either O or HO. If it's the latter it could run on the layout I'm building in my basement. If O, I've seen club layouts that could accommodate it. Either way, it would be striking!

The engine looks a bit longer than 999. Presumably due to the artists' style. I am working on an HO conversion using an old Tyco Hudson My skill level and tools are not up to a precise likeness in detail, but the overall look will match, and there'll be no mistaking it for anything else. One could call it an 'Americanized' version.

There used to be a set made in N-gage, basic train and expansion to model the complete consist in movie and TV versions, but it has been discontinued for several years.

Hard to tell, but the lead car looks to be some kind of combination car. Did these trains have baggage, dining, or sleeping cars, or were they all coaches?

This is a 1:80 scale model; the body size has been increased so the 3'6" rolling stock will fit on regular HO-gauge track.  Good luck with the model!  This model train includes baggage and dining cars as well as coaches of different classes, though I did not see any sleeping cars on this train.  My layout is an N-gauge layout in a 4x10 (effectively 4x8) loft, which would be a bit small for operating HO stock of this type.
