My 3000th military-themed picture!
Not every McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II jet went to combat or reconnaissance. F-4J SD-100 was assigned to the Naval Air Test Center (NATC) in Maryland, from which it was donated to the nearby Patuxent River Naval Air Museum. I am glad there are as many surviving Phantoms as we have today -- they seem to be a well-represented plane at aviation museums.
