Description When Dr. Robert Ballard found the wreckage of White Star Line steamship RMS Titanic on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean in 1985, he confirmed eyewitness accounts from the 1912 sinking by showing that the ship had broken in two as it sank.Β  This model of the bow section of RMS Titanic is on display at the Mariners Museum in Newport News, Virginia, and shows where the hull split, as well as another break along an expansion joint.

of course, they messed up where it split. Titanic had four funnels, the split occurred between the third and fourth funnel, not in half like some people think.

She had special joints which were spaced splits in the upper part of the body so the ship could flex in the water. When the ship was sinking, the third joint was under too much strain, and it broke, separating the body between the third and fourth funnel

this also doesn't appear to be the sternΒ

Also, some people did say that the rear grand staircase, between the third and fourth funnel, was not really built to undergo that extreme amount of stress in a single moment...
