During World War II, Austrian-born aerospace engineer Eugen Sänger designed the low-orbit Silbervogel bomber for Nazi Germany. He continued designing spaceplanes after the war, such as the two-stage Space Transporter (booster + orbiter) whose Revell model appeared at the Shizuoka Hobby Show, and is credited as one of the grandfathers of the American NASA space shuttle.
