Description Thatcher Perkins was a 4-6-0 steam engine built for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1863, and received the number 147 when it entered service. It was named for the designer, who began building 4-6-0 "Ten-Wheeler" engines to pull Union military trains during the Civil War. Thatcher Perkins was retired in 1892 after nearly thirty years of service and was preserved by the B&O. The old engine was heavily damaged in 2003 when the roof of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum collapsed and fell on several trains. However, Thatcher Perkins has now been restored to its full and original splendor.

A beautiful treasure. Superb shot of a National Treasure. Wish more of yesterdays steam locomotives had been preserved.

It's kinda odd, of all the old trains I've seen on the rails I've never seen a funnel stack like this one on a major line

I've seen a few similar stacks, but you're right about this particular style; it's not very common now.

Out of all the locomotives on display at the B&O Museum I believe this is my personal favorite! I adore early Ten-Wheelers and the Perkins here is a wonderful example. The engine has wonderful proportions and great lines! I would love to see her under steam again one day. Hopefully that can happen one day.
Though my second favorite is hiding right there in the background, the William Mason.

A strange thought came to my mind seeing this restored locomotive. "I guess AutoZone probably doesn't have a good selection of parts for this model."

Amazing that the GWR (Great Western Railway) CME Churchwood took the 4-6-0 "ten-Wheeler" desing to build some really lovely engines aka ( Castle class, King Class ECT) Can't name all the GWR 4-6-0s

I hope you don't pointing this out Collett designed the Castle and King classes (the Castle class began as a modified version of the Star class) Churchward designed 4 6 0's like the Saint class and the Star class as I mentioned earlier
