Description
After its retirement by British Railways in 1962, former Great Western Railway (GWR) 4-6-0 steam locomotive No. 6023 King Edward II was sent to the Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, Wales, where it was damaged in a shunting accident and then stripped for parts. Someone wrote WE CAN'T SAVE THIS ONE on the rusting locomotive, but in 1984 King Edward II was bought from the scrapyard and slowly restored to become the third preserved King-class engine after No. 6000 King George V and No. 6024 King Edward I. I saw King Edward II, which has by now outlasted its short-lived namesake, wearing the short-lived BR blue passenger livery at Didcot Railway Centre.Related content

I think 6023 King Edward II looks beautiful and I think it will be on the mainline for the first time in 2017

Awesome photo. To think they said they couldn't save that one, well I'd say it was saved.

Have you seen Angry Welshman's Railworks Race #5? They made some jokes about King Edward II being an emo.

You gotta see it. If you like British humor and British steam locomotives, you'll love his videos, especially his racing videos.
