ALL THE TIME.Using bases, most are traced from screenshots or even other artist art without permission, are unoriginal, and hardly no effort in it.
All I have seen, are sloppy color-overs.
If you want to be more original, and actually put more effort into your "OCs"
Draw them yourself. Meaning, pick up a pencil, get some paper and DRAW. Use that paint program you use, and instead of color-over a base, DRAW it yourself.
I know, it is hard to draw on the computer with a mouse, but you can't get good unless you actually practice.
Use references, read tutorials, practice more, repeat.
Make your own art to be actually real original, put more effort into your art.
This is my opinion. YES I HATE BASES, with a burning passion.
No you won't make me change my mind, if you don't agree with me.
I am talking about traced bases that are colored over, horribly I might add.
If you actually make your own base from scratch, Kudos to you. You are doing it right.

Easy there kiddo. Just try to find out who is the creator of the bases you use or let it know you used a base and don't know who it is. No need to throw a fit.

Your comment made it seem you did. That you assume I used one, too. ._. Anyway, yeah, whatever. This stamp not even in my gallery anymore but in scraps. Move along, and try to make your own artwork instead of from bases. You might feel it be more rewarding, by drawing everything by yourself, then to recoloring bases all the time.

I used a base once and always felt like I was stealing. Yeah. I really hate them. I'd rather face the challenge of drawing with my mouse than use a base. Even though I really rush when I draw.

I use bases but Im not lazy when I use one I try to make it look really good and I spend a lot of time on them.I draw my characters too quite alot but yh I'm not sure about traced bases there ok if the artist knows but if they don't then that's not fair on the artist

If you can draw, good, draw your own stuff instead of using bases. Or draw your own bases, and use them, that is good. I'm talking here about using traced bases from official artwork, not original, nor no effort to them. Of course this is my opinion. And having one that isn't like your own is bad, I guess. Oh well.

You DO know people use SonicX screenshots AS bases. Why do you think people made bases? To solve the problem.

Screenshots are copyright artwork, most don't ask permission from the owners to use them for bases. That is a problem in my opinion.

I use bases, but I put effort into the things I draw using them. As soon as I get a tablet, though... Because I usually use paper and pencil, and they look fine, but on the computer with a track-pad... I go derp XD

When it comes to animals I MAKE MY OWN BASES thank you very much!!!! So when you say bases be specific! Do you mean humans or animals. You guys have to cut it out! I even make bases from photographs of myself! It always depends if I have time or not! I NEVER DID DRAWING CLASS AND NEVER HAD ART IN SCHOOL! Tracing something is wrong while taking a pose from a picture/drawing/photograph helps! It isn't the same as tracing! If I like a pose of a person I ask the person If I can use it. It's called being polite! People who make these types of stamps should erase them! They are SO not postitive!!!

If you use your OWN photos and stuff to make your bases, good for you. Ones who trace from others art, and copyright/screenshots to make bases, is what this is aim at.

I agree, I only used one base so far, and that is only to start me for practicing digital art, and I HATED using the base, it was HORRABLE, it was TOTALLY out of my comfort zone, I am never using a base again (Lye, i will prob use it once or twice again just incase some base imergensy comes up and I need to know how to use it)! I tottally agree with this though

well sorry but I don't have the time to make my owner art because I have a little sister to watch so use bases but I do try to make my owner art on the computer. but I still don't have the time to my owner art

You know, you don't have to draw all in one day. Many Artist takes days, to weeks to work on an artwork, while taking time to do other things in their life.
Most of my drawings take 20-30 mins, if I only do pencil shaded drawings. 10 minutes or so to do a simple sketch.

I know but I like to draw in one day because I want have time. with my family so I don't care how much time I have to draw. but I used to draw very good before my little sister was born and before my dad fixed my computer the first time. but now my art really sucks. and plus I don't have the coloring program I'm use to. but I can't get back.

It's good every now and then when you have time to draw something of you own.
Coloring program? Did you have photoshop or gimp? There are free programs you can download. I recommend MyPaint. It is free.
