Description In homage to the beautiful Ocean Liner Olympic, who seems to dwell forever in her tragic sister's shadow. This is the Old Reliable in all of her glory!

I like this one the best! I'm guessing this was Olympic in late 1913 and early 1914, considering her extra lifeboats and higher gold band.

Good guess! Actually, I modeled it after one of the last photos of her taken before being sold to the scrapping yard. I wanted to make it a little happier looking though. Olympic was beautiful before 1912 and most certainly afterward too! I am happy to hear you like this one the best; it is one of my favourites as well. I drew it this year and had it finished around October 20th-the Anniversary of her Launching, you know!

So it's kind of a Birthday present to the great ship! I'm sure Olympic would have loved it.

Yes, how true! A birthday present to a Great Ship! I had the date on my calendar and silently celebrated it by watching YouTube tributes to her that Sunday after seeing a fantastic Titanic exhibition. I had to celebrate both of the girls that day, in other words. I sent plenty of love to Olympic though. She was not overshadowed! I made a promise to her that she won't be. By the way, have you signed the petition for Replica Olympic? It's available at http://www.petitiononline.com/…  . (Hope that link works!) It is a project a young fellow is starting, and all signatures are being sent to Harland and Wolff. Only 100 some-odd are there. Read some of the comments people leave; they are truly touching...

I've signed the petition. And yes, the comments really are touching. One person has even gone far enough to hope there are remnants of her long gone hull.

I am 'hopelessly hopeful' in certain ways too. What ever happened to what remained of her hull? If I had been there in the 1930's, I would of bought the grandest bouquet of roses I could find, and toss it out to sea; in her memory. When I visit the Belfast docks, you can guarantee I'll have two bouquets for both sisters then.

I'm that way with Columbia's wreck. But back to Olympic, I really do hope there are giant sections left of her actual hull, but seeing the way the RMS Berengaria was scrapped in Jarrow on newsreels... I can't be certain there is much left. But at the same time, Olympic's demolition was "completed" in Inverkeithing. There may be something left, but given how desperate people were for materials in the Great Depression, I have my doubts.

Yes, I hope there would be sections left too; but I agree with your doubts. Since 1935, I imagine not much is left.

I know, it's a shame. But it does make me wonder what they recycled her into. Unfortunately for Berengaria, it was cat food cans. I mean, c'mon, cat food? How low can one get?

CAT FOOD CANS?!?!?! SERIOUSLY?? I feel so sorry for Berengaria. That is a HORRIBLE ending to a triumphant life. God, I am so happy Olympic didn't face that-at least I HOPE not!

I hope she didn't either, but unfortunately, Berengaria and Olympic were both scrapped in Jarrow...

I just hope she became another grand liner. Maybe she became part of the SS United States. Either way, at least Olympic didn't have the undignified end of the SS Victoria. After being a glorious liner (SS Parthia for Cunard and SS Victoria for the Alaska Steamship Company) for almost 80 years, she was turned into a barge. A BARGE. The last voyage she made was under tow by a tugboat to being demolished in Osaka. Those aged wrought iron plates made with love by hand in Sweden probably carried so much caring for all the thousands who travelled on her, including troops during WWII, the Mahdist Wars and the Spanish American War.

A barge?! Now, that is very insulting. Yes, let us hope Olympic was transformed in the way you say into another grand liner. I would even feel that would be more respectful. That way, she could instill the new ship with her wisdom. I have no doubts that Olympic had it too!

Who knows, maybe some of her metal and Mauretania's metal were used in the construction of the Queen Elizabeth.

She looked beautiful in color, too bad she couldn't be used as an exhibit or a floating hotel if she ever lasted a lifetime like the RMS Nomadic.

Thank you so much for viewing my drawing. Yes, I agree though, it is a horrible shame she could not have been saved from the scrapyard. I assume you know, but before she went on her final voyeur to the T.W Ward shipyard, there were hopes of her being turned into a Floating Hotel on France's South coast. The Great Depression is what sounded Old Reliable's death knell though. Queen Mary is wonderful and all, but I would be twice as enamored if Olympic were docked instead. (No offense to you if you are fond of Queen Mary, but, all the same.) Thanks again for viewing!!

No problem, I'm a fan of ocean liners and of course I like both the Queen Mary and the Olympic. Don't worry, I'm not offended by what you mentioned, I know during the time the Queen Mary began first voyage, Olympic was distinguished immediately. It's sad to think that she was replaced by her, although technology was changing after the Great Depression ended so it wasn't possible to keep her around while the QM hits the ocean.

I actually remember looking back at the date when I last posted my older drawing of the Olympic, and it gave me enough time to do the new one since September.
