The American flag is a commonly recognized symbol of the United States and everything that it stands for. There are several pictures of it all over this website, but there is something missing:The changes.
Including the present flag, there are 27 historic United States flag designs. This animation shows all 26 changes in the flag to date.
Please note that the Betsy Ross flag is not an official US flag.
Some noteworthy flags in this animation include
13 star flag: The first official US flag, adopted on June 14, 1777
15 star flag: The Star Spangled Banner, and the only flag to have more than 13 stripes
24 star flag: The first flag to be called, "Old Glory"
48 star flag: The second longest serving national flag, which served during both World Wars
50 star flag: The current and longest serving flag
It is interesting to note that no official US flag ever goes obsolete, so any flag of the design shown in this animation is completely legal to fly.

I know of a site that has all 50 flags in 4"×6" stick flags. I hope to get them. In time, I am also considering getting the 3'×5' flags, but they are sewn, making cost a considerable amount.
