Why did you choose this particular name for your deviantArt identity?

Tiangtam is my birth given last name. I was born in Thailand and adopted at an early age. I changed my name when I was naturalized in America, but I always want my "real" name to be a part of me

Describe what visitors will find if they check out your dA gallery.

Viewers should find superheroes, mostly females, in a variety of situations. The characters are beautiful and sexy, some would say sexualized, but I think it's not anything you wouldn't find in a PG-13 show. There are some nude pictures on the site, but most of the naughtier picture are on other pages (I do provide links)

Your work often involves superheroines from “The Big Two.” Which do you like better – DC or Marvel? And explain why you choose one over the other.

Interesting...I like Marvel the most, but DC has my favorite character, Supergirl. I like Marvel because I can relate to most of their stories. DC seems to have too many godlike characters.

Your work also often features bondage, peril or damsel-in-distress content? When did you first develop your interest in those genres? And how did you go about transforming that interest into art?

TBH I don't have much interest in any of these as a fetish; I think they serve a point in a story. I want the heroine to win...I love a good strong character. So why do those types of picture? I don't see anything wrong with bondage/peril and I get commissioned to do those pictures. Left to my own art, you will see me doing sexy pin-ups or some cool action scene

What made you decide to share your work on DeviantArt?

I joined DA 4-5 years ago and never uploaded anything. Drawing was a hobby for me and I always loved comics. I just never had time to sit and do a full picture and upload it, so mostly I'd doodle on my phone and mess around on photoshop. Two years ago I retired from military life and now I have much more free time, but now I can't draw a straight line to save my life. Lucky for me DazStudio was out there and I found 3D Art.  After learning the program, I was able to produce some neat things, things I felt I could share

What are the "tools of your trade"? And how do you decide what you will draw?

I use DazStudio for the 3D modeling/posing and photoshop to give pictures "my style"

What do you like most and least about the creative process?

I like inventing the scene in my mind the most (it's usually way better in my head lol). Actually posing a scene gets pretty boring to me, but it is very important...viewers need to be able to think that what they are seeing is possible (IMO). I like the posing least because it takes the most time

Have you ever received any complaints that your artwork is offensive? If so, what in particular was the complaint about and how did you respond to it?

I get complaints every once in a while. It's usually about over-sexualizing women. I try to explain that that is not my intent...I'm making sexy women from comics. Comics that I read when I was a teenager. Boobs were bigger in comics back then lol. But I do admit that I add a little extra here and there...it's what I like. My response to complaints like that is usually "if you don't like it, then don't look at my art, DA has provided many ways to keep you from seeing my content. I'm sorry you don't like my art, but I'm not changing what I do."

Your very first Journal covered your policy on commissions. Have you been successful in being commissioned to do art for others on dA? What has been the most bizarre commission request that you have received? Have you ever declined a commission? (And if so, why?)

I do pretty good with commissions, I haven't figured out how many I do a week...feels like 5 My most bizarre commission was something about a dragon with a giant penis and a girl...I laughed and politely declined. I decline commissions for a lot of reasons...if I feel like I can't do justice to the picture a customer wants, if I don't own the 3D asset needed to do the picture, and of course if the picture takes me out of my comfort zone. If I can't show my family the picture then ...

You’re very prolific with the number of renders you produce. How long does it take you to produce a render? Are all of your posted renders new or have you “stockpiled” them and gradually released the material on dA?

I try to do a picture a day...I come up with themes and run through a bunch of models in the same setting. For instance, right now I'm doing a Good Girls Gone Bad theme...I have 2 computers. On my older machine I create poses and scenes and render on the other. Simple pin-ups take 1 hour total...full scenes take about 3 hours (those are just averages)

You do a fair amount of work for or with What exactly does he have on you that clearly compels you to associate with the likes of him?

Lardy was one of my first commissions and we kind of had fun chatting while I worked on his picture. He's really a nice guy...and very funny too (to me anyways). Since I like to laugh, we became friends

In a recent render you did for Lardy, he thanked you for letting him talk you into “producing a far naughtier pic” than you’d normally do. What are the limits you’ve set for yourself when it comes to producing “naughty” images and, now that you’ve crossed the line once thanks to LordLard’s bad influence, will we be seeing more of such images from you going forward?

Well, no giant penis ... I'm usually okay with anything that DA allows and as requests come in, if I don't feel comfortable with it, I'll back out. Not sure which picture it was that Lardy said that on. If it was someone's original character, then I normally back out unless the owner says it's okay, but even then I don't like the situation

Have any other 3D artists inspired or influenced your work? If so, who are they and how were you inspired by their work?

I love 3D art and there are a lot of people that I watch, but my favorites are shibashake/Aeon--Soul/Aphrodite-NS/haneto/Laticis/RGUS/Epoch-Art/pjacubinas I'm sure there are more but...

What do you do when you’re not browsing deviantArt or drawing something for DA?

I like a lot of things...video games/ reading/ television/ movies... most important is taking my dog out for fun and play

What drawing of yours are you most proud of?

I like a lot...too many to name...but if I have to pick 1, I'd pick fav.me/d9g8m56  The colors and everything just look nice to me

Do your friends and family know you create the kind of art you share on dA?

Yes, they know I'm a pervy old man They support my hobby are glad that I have a creative outlet

I love your profiles of characters, including, humbling myself.  I love how you work and you have better realism than I do.   Its nice to see you work and hope you are allowed back on.  I never seen you stray from the TOS and there is always someone out of touch who complains.  You sir, are a great artist and a charming person.  I hope to watch you more.

Damn man, I really need to find time to catch up on all the past ones. It's not easy to find the time to sit down and really appreciate these as much as I'd like but I will try! And I'd be honored to be added to the list of future interviewees.

It's a bit compelling to read an interview with someone so completely caught up in the super-whatever domain, especially those of the "Big Two." Thank you, Tiangtam, for being so explicit about the attractions those characters hold for you, and what artistic features you seek to emphasize in your artwork. I wish you best of luck.

And thanks, Rob, for this interesting interview.

Fantastic interview, am a big fan of Tiangtam's work and having spoken with him recently I can verify 100% that he is one of the nicest guys on D.A.

And both surprised and delighted to read that like me, likes the heroines to win

tiangtam In reply to devduck01 [2017-08-27 17:06:20 +0000 UTC]

thanks for the kind words DD

I love the good guys winning...I think the struggle to get there is probably the most interesting part of most stories

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

devduck01 In reply to tiangtam [2017-08-27 17:09:51 +0000 UTC]

No problem and I agree 100%...

The struggle brings the drama, tension and excitement to the stories, but the winning brings the satisfaction

Superheroines are strong, intelligent and capable women...they should win more often than not

tiangtam In reply to devduck01 [2017-08-27 17:13:48 +0000 UTC]

Very well said, nothing but agreement here

Its very interesting to me that most of my commissions are for the heroines to lose

Rob66 In reply to PoserGirlsInTrouble [2017-08-17 11:09:18 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome.  That's a great observation too!  Bondage is my thing but the lack of it doesn't stop me from appreciating great art like what Tiangtam creates.

PoserGirlsInTrouble In reply to Rob66 [2017-08-17 11:56:29 +0000 UTC]

That's the point - we all like other stuff too. I believe that even a story that is based around bondage works best with at least some non-bondage scenes, if only to establish the characters. Once you care about them, there's more impact once they do get tied up.

LordLard [2017-08-15 22:03:09 +0000 UTC]

is clearly a confused soul desperately in need of our support.
I can just about understand him finding me vaguely amusing, although he clearly has low standards, but what on earth is this rubbish about 'wanting the heroine to win'?

Oh, I'm going to have to work VERY hard to help him come to his senses.

P.S. I think my particular bad influence was probably over an unfortunate-but-entertaining case of unrealistically expanding boobies that Twangmaster would never normally stoop to
