Wire wool, believe it or not. Put a bit of wire wool in a cheap metal whisk, tie a bit of string to the end, light the wire wool and swing it round. It sparks off and when photoing with a long exposure, this is the result.

I would of never of thought about using wire wool does it burn for a long time or did you have to use quite a bit of it?
might have to try some stuff with wire wool when I get the time looks like loads of fun

I tend to cut a enough to fill the whisk. It tends to smoulder as it burns and by swinging it round, it gives it more oxygen which lets the the fire spread through the wool. The sparks are bits of the wool which are lit that fly out. So best try it somewhere where you're not likely to start a fire, or if it's rained before.

oh yeah shall have to remember that as I don't wanna get in trouble for starting a fire lol
