After the Word of Blake Jihad came to an end, the Republic of the Sphere was formed and in this era came peace. However in the process of this, all the Great Houses lost a lot of their territory and power. The Republic was stronger than them due to the situation left by the Jihad and many worlds felt free enough to join this new cause.

Yet is the way of the Inner Sphere, peace is nothing more than a respite for hell.

In early 3130, for reasons unknown, the entire HPG network of the Inner Sphere, the lifeblood of human communication, blacked out. Without this marvel of hyperspace broadcasting, the society of the Inner Sphere and the Republic started to fall apart, old divisions sprouted, and chaos reared its head. Within this, old factions who lost out to the new alliance were now keen to retake what they once owned.

Of course to do this, they needed new machines to fight the ones belonging to the Republic of the Sphere as well as any general resistance.

One nation keen to retake what they had lost was the Capellan Confederation of House Liao. The Jihad gave them the chance to retake their lost worlds from the Fourth Succession War but at a cost. The Republic’s creation made the effort look stupid.

Now with the blackout of the Hyper Pulse Generator Network, no one can warn other worlds of invasion or cry for help. The only way that warnings and messages could be delivered was through the old fashioned way of courier through jumpships.

To assist in their efforts the Capellans geared up new mechs for their retake and one was developed for swift infiltration and deployment, “disposable” but capable of delivering a lot of punishment with minimal fuss.

Rather than build from scratch a new mech, House Liao decided to modify vehicles like the Locust, the Madra, and the Flea – small, easy to replace mechs that could be modified with speed.

Like with mechs of this era, it was equipped with an endo steel frame and XL engine which came with double heatsinks as standard. However in the process the machines became lighter, so the Liaos decided to push further with a smaller close cockpit, and a more compact gyro. With it they gained extra weight and space to exploit. For range and punch, a Rotary AC/2 was installed with a ton of ammo. It has the best of all worlds – it was rapid as an Ultra, long ranged as a standard AC/2, and had a more effective punch that many large autocannons including any AC/10 type. Backing it up were a pair of medium lasers with extended range ability.

The mech had no hands, no arms, no jump jets or MASC for speed and agility – but with its natural speed and lightness, it was enough despite it having a mere 4 plus tons of Ferro Fibrous armour.

Deployed in swarms these machines speed and agility with combined ranges can overwhelm all but the best protected garrisons and installations.

On its own the mech is missile fodder to machines like the Javelin or Commando, but in groups it’s a lethal force.

It yet was to have a name but in the end it earned one in battle – one of Chinese origin.

The Feng Rùqīnzhě or Wind Intruder due to its fast and swift infiltration. Swift, as the winds of terrible change in the Inner Sphere.
