Description
Every time I think I'm getting away from my photographic roots (those roots being "gratuitous animal close ups"), I take a look in my gallery and realize that's just not true. Regardless, here's a gratuitous animal close up.Snow leopard, Sacramento Zoo. High res and prints available through the store

Thank you. Definitely one of the more photogenic snow leopards I've seen now that she has come out of her shell a bit.

Seven days later, and the staring contest continues. Who will blink first?

Those eyes are GORGEOUS! I mean the entire animal is gorgeous, but the even lighting on the eyes is really awesome!Β

Yep, toward the end of the day, the Sacramento Zoo is blessed with soft, even light across all the big cat exhibits, save the margay, which gets no light at all. The way it always seems to shake out is that I spend most of the day "warming up", and then the fun begins about 3:30 in the afternoon. Glad you like the shot.

Lucky! It was rare for me to get lighting like that at the Oregon zoo. The sun would set behind one of the surrounding hills, blocking that neat warm light from the setting sun. So instead everything looked pretty cold when late afternoon came around Β
