Description
Some more past blastage from my sketchbook and my Traveller days. My sketchbook images are rarely polished... and this is no exception. They are usually just detailed to make sure that what I see in my head can be done on paper... that is unless I needed to approve designs in advance from an art director. These are the doobles/noodles that I did when brainstorming the idea for the cover of Digest Group Publication's "The Traveller Digest #8". The work was to be B&W and then spot colored. They made the mistake of taking my advice on using our one spot color... but I was pretty chromatically inept back then. Ack!
You can see a small reproduction of the finished thing, here: [link] I'm not sure but this may be the only time a K'Kree ship was illustrated. If you happen to know of others, let me know. At the very least it was the first.
The Alexandria class was my one creation, made for FASA's "Traveller Adventure Class Ships" product. Drell-7 has made a BEAUTIFUL model of it, if you've not already seen it: [link]

I actually missed that it was a starship coming in for a landing... I always thought there was two structures in the water... Sorry. Bad Teskai, bad. Must look more carefully in the future.

LOL! That's OK. The image was "less than perfect".

There was the K'Kree ship profile you did for Challenge 28, K'kree Starships: A Human Perspective, the 6000 ton Xeekr'kir Class Merchant.

Did you consider to transfer these "old ideas" into your today's medium (and your today's skills)?
could be cool, couldn't it?

Oh sure, I've thought of it.... but my modeling skills (or lack thereof) have kept my ambitions in check.

Thanks for sharing, it's always interesting to see how an idea develops.
The color effect is not that bad.. it's a nice eye-catcher.
I don't remember having seen it during my visit (but the amount of material was so huge and the jet-lag effects were still beating me, so I may be wrong.)
For some reason I'm visualizing the scene in the middle of a storm, like on Kamino in "Attack of the Clones".

Wow, drawing it during a storm would have been WAY beyond my abilities at the time.... but it could have been cool!!

I seem to remember that cover. Of course, I could always open my footlocker and look at it.

So, now would be a good time to take a stab at the character intensive approach...

Yeah, I always enjoy looking at others' "could have been" concepts In some cases, like a lot of the work for Prometheus, the earlier designs are WAY cooler!

Indeed. Even though I haven't seen it, I feel that way about Alien 3... I would definitely want to see it if they'd kept the original setting.

Very cool Great seeing where and how this grand old art came into being, though I'm sorry they didn't pursue that 'Tiddly Winks in the Imperium' article idea
Dig the Alexandria too
I've got the Adventure Class set... such a great bird

Indeed.. a true pity and I feel for you. Such information there to be had. Playing styles in different gravities, does 'winking' in jump count as a navigational hazard, and of course the the scandal of 1103 where the Imperium Ambassador accused members of the Zhodani consulate of TK cheating was one of the smoldering causes of the Fifth Frontier War.
