The UK magazine has nothing to do with the former US version. Play went out of business with that issue, I was there till the very end and tried to relaunch GameFan with Dave Halverson to no avail shortly there after. Sorry.

Can some of the issues of the US Play mag be found somewhere? There's a specific issue I'm looking for. It's the December 2006 issue. Only I hope the shipping's not expensive. This is how the issue looks like.

For some reason they the default male Shepard to be their poster child just like in the ads. That's probably why I would never touch Mass Effect.

Mind you I drew this before he game came out, I had no description of characters, or playtime with the game. All i could do was infer by their profession, since he was an assassin I thought he should look a little more badass than say... Abe Sapien? which I thought he resembled a little bit too much imo.

Its a good piece, but... thane looks a bit too much on the grumpy side, thane never got mad or pissed... so its a bit of character, but the style... if i was putting up a massive poster on my wall, this would be the one... Shame you put tali in the background, i like her more than the other girls of mass effect...

Hey there, thx for the feedback n__n Yeah Tali was dded at last sec by me cause I thought it was a bit of a sausage fest lol to be honest EA didn't want her at all, the marketing was focuses on Shepard, Dark Haired Chick, and Thane. As for Thanes aggressiveness, I've addressed this before but I'll shed a little more light on the design process. I don't actually get to play the games before drawing them, I work remotely (I.E. from Home) So i get all the art assets provided by the publisher, go to Gamevideos or Youtube to see it all moving and make a call visually about what sticks out to me. I thought Thane looked cool, but for an assassin he looked Placid lol like Abe Sapian. Just my own take that's all, EA never said anything about it which would be normal if it were out of character, so I moved on. In the future if I did any more Mass Effect art(doubt it) I would be aware of that and keep note. The only ting I was adamant about was i wanted the main character to basically point a gun at you, the reader lol A big no-no really, but I wanted to find a way around it. Thx! Good lord concerening Vandershep, he is the advertisement shepard. the Standard version the one that they have been using to adverstise the game since the beginning.
USING A FEMALE SHEPARD WOULD JUST BE CONFUSING
plus the had to license vanderloo, the had to make him sign friggin papers. They arent going to waste that efffort by putting seemingly random characters in advertisements
all that is going to do is confuse people concerning the npc squadmates in the game
every new shepard it would be like, whos that new character.
and they would have to explain a thousand times over that it isnt a new character

This is awesome, I can't believe EA would say something like that...caricatures? No, wait, this is EA...I can see them saying such foolishness. Their CG models are "caricatures," your work is actually unique and compelling. I know if it was between EA's rendition of CG ho-hum space-marine-by-the-dozen Shepard, and this, I would pick up the magazine with your work on it, hands down. I love hand-drawn artwork, far and beyond CG...it has so much more "life" and "personality" instilled in it than any CG art could hope to portray. Beautifully done.
Too bad about the femShep thing as well. Again...this is EA, I'm not surprised one bit. Personally, every one of my playthroughs is with a femShep. *sigh*

My Shepard will always be female, at least in my game.
I still don't like Thane, and your draw doesn't help to like him more ^^u and would prefer a bigger Tali. But EA is the one who pays

i always like the hand drawn art better than the cg characters. it just looks more alive. glad that Play is for it. and that your drawing it. love your rendition of thane man. be looking for this cover.
