Description
This was part of my final project for Children's Book Illustration. I had an enormously good time doing this one; though, my teacher didn't like it much.I learned a lot from this class, especially about really looking into a text and trying to come up with something to illustrate from it.

It's not as impressive as some of your other pieces, but in a very minimalistic way it's effective at conveying emotions and tone. If it fits with the story, then it's good, right? Why didn't your teacher like it?

She wanted more closeups of all the characters and what not, and all my work was further away, and atmospheric.

Ok, I see, but that's an overall estimate of your work on the project and not a valid and constructive criticism on this particular piece. A piece shouldn't be deemed "less good" because it doesn't meet those very specific requirements. What if you had done only closeups? Would she then have said the same thing about one or more pieces, because of the lack of a piece like this one?

She probably would have. She wasn't the best teacher I've ever had, but I definitely still learned a lot about Illustrating for children.

Still, you should stab her in the tit with a dull brush dipped in pink paint and ask her if that's a good enough "closeup"... Sorry, I couldn't come up with anything to say so instead I just made a poor joke.
